DETROIT โ Metro Detroit bid a fond farewell to one of its longtime radio friends Friday as Frank Beckmann retired after 48 years behind the microphone. Just shy of five decades, the one constant voice from the golden tower of the Fisher Building and WJR was that of Beckmann. He started out doing sports before he branched into talk radio. โI donโt even realize how much Iโm going to miss it yet. AdโI promise Iโve gotten more return for doing this job than I ever could have given and Iโve tried my hardest to give,โ Beckmann said.

DETROIT โ Detroit sports broadcasting legend Frank Beckmann has announced his plans to retire after 48 years with WJR. Beckmann has hosted โThe Frank Beckmann Showโ on weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon for the last 18 years. Throughout his career, Beckmann is the only person to broadcast games for all four of Detroitโs major sports teams -- the Tigers, Pistons, Red Wings and Lions. โAs a youngster growing up on the east side of Detroit, I always imagined sitting behind a microphone, announcing Lions and Tigers games,โ Beckmann said. Beckmann was indicted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
Tigers manager Gardenhire announces immediate retirement

Ann Arbor judge announces retirement after 28 years of service
ANN ARBOR, Mich. Judge Elizabeth Pollard Hines has announced that she will retire from her position as a 15th District Court judge after 28 years on the bench. Announcing her retirement on Tuesday, Sept. 1., a statement from the Michigan Supreme Court said Hines will retire on Nov. 1. It has been my privilege to serve the citizens of Ann Arbor and the citizens of the state of Michigan. The longest serving judge in the 15th District Court, Hines was reelected in 1998, 2004, 2010 and 2016 without opposition. In 2012, the AJA created the Judge Libby Hines Award, which is given to judges who have made significant contributions for an effective response to domestic violence.
Utica school superintendent announces retirement just before new school year
UTICA, Mich. โ The superintendent of Utica Community Schools has announced sheโs retiring this fall. โIโm 100% confident that we will do as good a job as is humanly possible under these circumstances,โ said Utica School Board president Bob Ross. โI think itโs been time for a new leadership, so Iโm looking forward to better collaboration with between the Association and the district,โ said Utica Education Association president Liza Parkinson. โThere was a tremendous amount of friction between the Utica Education Association and the superintendent,โ Parkinson said. The school board said theyโll hire an interim superintendent for the upcoming 2020-21 school year while they begin a nationwide search for Johnsโ replacement.

David Farber repurchases Detroit Popcorn Company, plans on selling business to black investors
REDFORD, Mich. In the wake of recent events former Detroit Popcorn Company owner, David Farber, has come out of retirement and repurchased the 97-year-old business. Previous owner, Evan Singer, is no longer affiliated with or employed by the business. I was very disheartened and disappointed in what Mr. Singer wrote on Facebook, said Farber. Detroit Popcorn Company is closed in the short term until we can assess the best way to move forward and also facilitate a sale. Mr. Singer disrespected our community, customers, and employees.
