Vikings GM has no regrets about draft-day trade that led to Lions landing Jameson Williams
But new Minnesota Vikings boss Kwesi Adofo-Mensah says he has no regrets about shipping the 12th overall pick across Lake Michigan, which led to the Detroit Lions landing receiver Jameson Williams. “You knew specifically what Green Bay was doing. But what we knew was, if Green Bay called any team after us and offered that deal, they’d have fallen all over themselves to take it. So Green Bay would have gotten the same player, and we wouldn’t have gotten the assets for it. Meanwhile, the Lions believe they got the better of that deal by landing the top receiver on their board.mlive.com

Penei Sewell activated from COVID list, but questionable with illness/thumb; Taylor Decker cleared
The Detroit Lions announced on Saturday afternoon they’re activating Taylor Decker and Penei Sewell from the COVID list. Decker is expected to play against the Packers, while Sewell has been added to the injury report due to thumb/illness. Head coach Dan Campbell said Goff’s status would not be linked to the return of Decker and Sewell, although having both offensive tackles back certainly helps. Goff didn’t play last week because of a bone bruise in his knee, nor the week before that because of a COVID infection. The Lions announced offensive lineman Will Holden is also questionable to play against Green Bay because of an illness.mlive.com
Jared Goff still limited at Lions practice, but throwing the ball well in bid to play in finale
ALLEN PARK -- Lions quarterback Jared Goff was a limited practice participant for a second straight day on Thursday, although he’s throwing the ball well in his bid to play in the season finale on Sunday against Green Bay. “I thought he moved around just fine (Wednesday),” offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn said before practice on Thursday. But Jared looked fine yesterday.”Goff suffered the injury during the rout against Arizona last month and hasn’t played since. But an interception at the goal line in the final seconds ended the comeback bid, and the Lions still haven’t won without Goff. “You have to miss the Atlanta game and Seattle game.mlive.com

The Detroit Lions announced on Sunday afternoon that quarterback Jared Goff has been officially ruled out against the Seattle Seahawks. After not playing last week because of a COVID infection, Goff didn’t practice this week because of a knee injury and was officially listed as doubtful in Seattle. Goff was lousy for most of the season, although the incoming quarterback class has fallen apart too. And Goff has played much better down the stretch, which has built some hope that perhaps the Lions could make things work with him after all. Seattle also is dealing with some injury issues, including downgrading top running back Alex Collins to out.mlive.com

Column: Karma may still want a word with Aaron Rodgers
Seattle at Green Bay was never going to live up to the hype, and really how could it? Karma intervenes in pro wrestling all the time, sure, but rarely in the NFL and almost never in the middle of the regular season. Ditto for those who hoped he’d emerge from a 10-day quarantine after a positive COVID-19 test like some avenging superhero, proving that Joe Rogan’s hair-of-the-dog-engineered cocktails work as well as anything the Centers for Disease Control puts its stamp of approval on.news.yahoo.com

Smith, drafted in second round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame, was once considered the rising star of the Dallas defense. His arrival in the NFC North will certainly provide a lift to a Packers defense that may have just lost its best defensive player, cornerback Jaire Alexander, for the season.mlive.com
The Detroit Lions believe they’re closer than you think

Did Packers’ Aaron Rodgers hint at future move to AFC?
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who could leave Green Bay following the 2022 season, hinted he could see himself playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers. “I’m a big Mike Tomlin fan. I like Mike Tomlin,”Rodgers and the Packers beat Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers, 27-17, on Sunday. Meanwhile the 37-year-old Rodgers and the Packers have won three straight to move into first place in the NFC North. Unhappy with the direction of the Packers, Rodgers, the reigning NFL MVP, had threatened to retire earlier this year before reworking his deal to return to Green Bay.mlive.com
Jared Goff off to up-and-down start in Detroit, but confident heading in right direction
ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions were among the league’s biggest underdogs when they strapped on their pads in a cramped locker room underneath the Lambeau Field bleachers on Monday night. They’ve believed in Jared Goff all along, and wanted to give him an opportunity to draw first blood against Aaron Rodgers. Los Angeles lost faith, eventually benched Goff during the postseason, then shipped him to Detroit for Matthew Stafford. I’d rather throw for 200 yards and win games.”Turnovers also remain a major issue for Goff. Despite all that, he’s given Detroit a chance to win in both games this season and is putting up some big aggregate numbers.mlive.com
3 things we learned: Detroit Lions have more issues at cornerback, linebacker heading into Ravens game
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Detroit Lions lost once again on Monday night, this time by a 35-17 score in Green Bay against the Packers. His struggles deepened in Green Bay, where he just wasn’t a factor against the run or pass and blew an assignment on two of Aaron Jones’ touchdowns. The Lions had to turn to Bobby Price in Green Bay, and if you’re asking yourself Bobby what?, well, that’s the proper response. Of course, Goff wasn’t good enough in the second half either. Green Bay took over, scored again and never looked back.mlive.com
‘I don’t want to see that (bleep)’: Dan Campbell tells players to avoid Same Old Lions negativity amid 0-2 start
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Detroit Lions are 0-2 in a league that is unkind to 0-2 teams. Asked about that Same Old Lions stuff, Dan Campbell didn’t mince words. “I told them I don’t want to see that (bleep),” Campbell said a few minutes after the 35-17 loss in Green Bay on Monday night. They love ball -- they want to clean up their mistakes -- and those are the guys I’m looking for, man. I don’t want those guys around here.”That sort of message is part of why Campbell was hired in the first place.mlive.com
Republican wants to require national anthem in Wisconsin
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban agreed to play the national anthem after the NBA reiterated its policy to require the song. “This tradition traces its roots back more than a century – even pre-dating the song’s adoption as the national anthem. No matter the scope, there is no penalty for violating the requirement, so even if the bar league softball team skipped the national anthem, there would be no repercussion under the law. Dan Patrick has said that requiring the national anthem at all Texas venues that receive public funding will be among his top legislative priorities this session. Although playing the national anthem before games is a staple of American sports at the professional and collegiate levels, it is far less common in other countries.

CBS isn't the only network that has modified its Super Bowl week plans. ESPN and NFL Network usually begin coverage from where the big game is held the Sunday before and when the teams usually arrive.

85-year-old fan's streak of Packers playoff games will go on

(AP Photo/Morry Gash)GREEN BAY, Wis. – An 85-year-old Green Bay Packers fan who has never missed a playoff game at Lambeau Field thought her streak was coming to an end this week until two charitable brothers heard her story. Fritzie Neitzel, of Green Bay, went to her first Packers game with her father in October 1945, when she was 10. As longtime season ticket holders, her family tried buying seats for the NFC championship game once they went on sale Wednesday. That's when Neitzel heard about the Spirit of Wisconsin Booster Club led by Steve Ewing, of Milwaukee, and Neal Ewing, of Green Bay. So Steve Ewing drove from Milwaukee to Green Bay on Saturday to hand off the phone with the tickets.
NFC Matchups: Where else to start but Brady and Rodgers?
But Gronk in particular has always been a big-play guy in big games for Brady, and Green Bay doesn't have linebackers who excel in coverage. Green Bay will do some blitzing, though not as much as Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles figures to do. Unlike Brady, Rodgers can create outside the pocket, and he's especially dangerous when doing so. Veteran placekicker Mason Crosby is solid, making all 16 field goal attempts, but missed four PATs for Green Bay. Tampa Bay's Ryan Succop, now in his 12th pro season, made 28 of 31 field goal tries but missed five extra points.
Super Host: Bucs become 1st to play Super Bowl at home
The Buccaneers defeated the Packers 31-26 to advance to the Super Bowl. Tampa Bay (14-5) is the first team to play a Super Bowl in its home stadium. The prize is much different this year, though, because the Super Bowl will be played in front of a far smaller crowd than usual. The first Super Bowl in 1967 was played in front of 61,946 fans at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Eagles backup Nick Foles threw for 352 yards and three touchdowns, a sign of things to come in the Super Bowl against New England.
Jared Goff to start for Rams in Green Bay; Wolford inactive
They're in complete accord this week, however: Goff is the best choice to lead the Los Angeles Rams in the playoffs. Goff will start the Rams' postseason game at Green Bay on Saturday, while John Wolford will be inactive one week after incurring a neck injury, McVay announced Thursday. After Goff had surgery on his broken right thumb Dec. 28, Wolford got the Rams' last two starts — even though Goff thought he was ready to play last week. McVay instead decided early in the week that Wolford would start, although he didn't announce his decision until shortly before kickoff. “I was extremely excited to have that chance in a big game up in Seattle,” Wolford said.
