Body found in Flint is woman who went missing in 2013, police say

FLINT, MI -- The woman’s body that was found in an abandoned building on Lapeer Road near Dort Highway last month has been identified as Jina Collins, a woman who went missing in 2013. Flint Police Chief Terence Green confirmed the woman’s identity to MLive-The Flint Journal during the afternoon hours on Wednesday, June 15. Crime Stoppers of Flint and Genesee County is still looking for information regarding her unsolved case. FLINT, MI – Flint police are investigating after the remains of an unknown woman were found in an abandoned building on Lapeer Road, near Dort Highway, Thursday morning. Officers with the Flint Police Department responded to a building in the 3200 block of Lapeer Road around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 26. 2 in critical condition after head-on crash in Flint

FLINT, MI – Two people are in critical condition after a two-vehicle crash late Sunday night, according to Flint police. The drivers of both vehicles were taken to Hurley Medical Center where they were listed in critical condition. Flint police said they don’t believe speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in the head-on crash. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Sgt. Lapeer Road bridge over I-69 closing Monday, month-long detour planned

GENESEE COUNTY, MI -- A deck resurfacing job will close the Lapeer Road bridge over I-69 in Davison Township starting on Monday, May 9, work that’s expected to continue into June. The Michigan Department of Transportation announced the closure in a news release and said drivers should expect to be detoured during the resurfacing via M-15, I-69 and Irish Road. Drivers should also expect shoulder closures on I-69 at Lapeer Road, MDOT’s announcement says. Work on the bridge is expected to improve ride quality and is one piece of the state’s investment in I-69. MDOT is spending $100 million on the expressway in Genesee County, rebuilding more than two miles of I-69 -- from Fenton Road to Dort Highway -- and making improvements at the I-69 and I-475 interchange.

Garbage truck drove through guard rail and got stuck on I-94 overpass, police say

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, MI—No injuries were reported Monday afternoon when a garbage truck crashed through a guard rail and became hung up on the I-94/Lapeer Road overpass bridge, authorities said. Central dispatch received a call that the garbage truck had crashed around 1:50 p.m. Monday, March 7, according to a news release issued by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office. The truck crashed through the median guardrail and ended up getting stuck on the Lapeer Road overpass bridge. A mother and daughter were seriously injured over the weekend when a suspected drunken driver crashed into the back of their car with a Hummer while they were stopped at a traffic light in Lapeer County, officials said.

FLINT, MI -- One person is dead after a hit-and-run crash in Flint, police said. Flint police officers were called to the scene of a pedestrian crash at Lapeer Road and Gilmartin Street shortly after 5:45 p.m. Dec. 11. Police found Maurice Willingham, 48, had been hit and killed by a vehicle headed west on Lapeer Road, according to a Wednesday, Dec. 16 statement from Flint police. (UPDATE: Police identify two women killed in St. Clair County crash)ST. CLAIR COUNTY, MI – Two women died and a third person was injured after a crash in St. Clair County, police said. Around noon Wednesday, Nov. 18, deputies with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office responded to Lapeer and Jarvis roads in Kimball Township, west of Port Huron, for a two-vehicle crash. A 72-year-old Kimball Township woman and 26-year-old Kimball Township woman in the Pontiac G6 were pronounced deceased. Photos, statements, and crash data from the vehicles will be used by the St. Clair County accident reconstruction team as part of their investigation into the fatal crash. The Kimball Township Fire Department, Port Huron Township Fire Department, and St. Clair County Road Commission assisted deputies with the incident.

Suspect shot in face by St. Clair County property owner during breaking and entering, police say

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, MI -- A 27-year-old man was shot in the face by a property owner during a breaking and entering incident in St. Clair County. As deputies were on their way to the property, a 50-year-old Port Huron man who owns the property confronted the suspect, a 27-year-old Kimball Township man. The suspect had illegally entered the property, said a St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office news release. The property owner then fired multiple rounds from a handgun at the suspect, police said. The incident remains under investigation by members of the Port Huron Major Crimes Unit, consisting of Port Huron police, Marysville police, and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officers as well as Michigan State Police.

Property owner shoots man breaking and entering in Clyde Township, deputies say

CLYDE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – St. Clair County Sheriff deputies said a man allegedly breaking into a property was shot in the face Monday by the property owner. The incident happened at about 3:34 p.m. in the 6000 block of Lapeer Road in Clyde Township. The 50-year-old property owner from Port Huron confronted a 27-year-old Kimball Township man as he was breaking and entering. Deputies and Port Huron Major Crimes Unit later located the suspect at a hospital. The Port Huron Major Crimes Unit is still investigating the incident.
