OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – Road workers weren’t floating a suggestion to rename Michigan’s second-largest city to “Grand Radips” when they installed a misspelled sign on I-96 over the weekend. Nor were they hoping to rename Coopersville to “Cooperville” when they installed two more signs with misspellings at on-and-off ramps on I-96 at 68th Street. Photos of the misspelled signs on I-96 near Coopersville, such as the one pointing drivers to “Grand Radips” instead of Grand Rapids, have been making rounds on social media since they were spotted over the weekend. On Monday, April 18, Michigan Department of Transportation contractors replaced the new, misspelled Coopersville signs with the older ones and took down the “East I-96 Grand Radips” sign altogether.
