Smith’s Bears teams from the beginning of last decade are near the top of that list. Chicago lost five of six and missed the postseason as the seventh seed with an 8-8 mark. The tough-luck missing playoff team that season was the Giants, who missed out the year before Eli Manning and Co. won their second Super Bowl under coach Tom Coughlin.

Detroit Lions defeat Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium
DETROIT – The Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons have had their share of mishaps in the fourth quarter lately, so it was no surprise when their game against each other was full of them. Hockenson with no time remaining, but the victory wasn’t secure until Matt Prater made the extra point, and he had to kick it from 15 yards further back because of a penalty. Pandemic limiting what NFL players can do on their off weeks
The Packers (4-0) and Detroit Lions (1-3) don’t play this week and therefore are the first NFL teams to get a taste of how different off weeks will be amid a pandemic. “We have new protocols in place that are meant to keep everybody safe and healthy,” Lions coach Matt Patricia said. The NFL sent out a reminder Friday that the league’s agreement with the NFL Players Association in August means players who miss tests can be punished with a $50,000 fine. “You’ve got to look no further than Tennessee.”The protocols are impacting some players more than others. Lions, coach, GM fined for violating injury reporting policy
NEW YORK, NY – The Detroit Lions have been fined $75,000 for violating the NFL's injury report policy before quarterback Matthew Stafford missed a Nov. 10 game at Chicago. Coach Matt Patricia was also fined $25,000 and general manager Bob Quinn $10,000. Stafford, who hadn't missed a game since the 2010 season, had been listed as questionable the Friday before the game. “Out of respect for him and everything that he’s done for this organization, I just wanted to leave the option open when we got to Sunday if he wanted to dress." Patricia said Stafford wasn't downgraded to out because the coach wanted to leave the option open that Stafford might suit up for the game.
Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford not expected to play Sunday vs. Dallas Cowboys
Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is not expected to play Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, according to coach Matt Patricia. Stafford missed last weeks game against the Chicago Bears after starting 136 consecutive games for the Lions, dating back to the 2011 season. Jeff Driskel started in Staffords place, completing 27 of 46 pass attempts for 269 yards, a touchdown and an interception. At 3-5-1, the Lions have no hopes of qualifying for the postseason in the NFC, so being cautious with their franchise quarterback makes sense. Once again, the second half of the year will be more about draft position than meaningful games in Detroit.
