Renita Wilson, of SEIU Home Health Care Providers, was overcome with emotion when she checked on William Norman -- an 81-year-old Army veteran. For the first seven days of protests in Detroit, everyone involved got to know the voice of Gabrielle Wilson. But sheโs no longer protesting because she thinks she can have more of an impact by creating a nonprofit organization for middle class Black families. โI am one of them.โDetroit Mayor Mike Duggan said Wilson got his attention during the protests. Local 4 has heard from other protesters who have stopped because more aggressive groups pushed them to the side, criticizing them for wanting peaceful protests.
25-year-old man charged in shooting death of 5-year-old boy in North Carolina
Police have charged a 25-year-old man with first-degree murder after they say he shot and killed a 5-year-old boy last week in Wilson, North Carolina. Austin Hinnant told CNN affiliate WRAL he was inside the home when his son, Cannon, was playing outside and was shot. Hinnant says he ran outside and scooped up the injured child and held him in his arms. "I screamed 'somebody help me, please help me save my son,'" he said. Police identified Sessoms as a suspect and arrested him after he was found Monday in a Goldsboro residence about 30 minutes south of Wilson.
New chief of embattled Colorado force wants cops to see bias
Vanessa Wilson was named the new chief of the Aurora Police Department this week after serving as its interim leader. It would never have happened, she told The Associated Press, had officers used their common sense to respond to what they observed. The Colorado attorney general is investigating a year after a local prosecutor said there wasnt enough evidence to prosecute the officers. Its one of a handful of investigations into McClains death, including a city review of police policies like use of force. Jared Polis told reporters Tuesday that he hopes Wilson is ready to work to increase transparency within the department and rebuild trust.

ATHENS A point of pride for Greece was touched by controversy Monday, as the countrys prime minister was criticized by an opposition party for using a military helicopter during a trip to celebrate with Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, on being granted Greek citizenship. In an Instagram post on Sunday, Prime Minister Kyriakos shared a photograph of showing him and his wife Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotaki at a meeting with Hanks and Wilson, who were holding up their new Greek passports. Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks are now proud Greek citizens, Mitsotakis wrote in the post. Greece offered citizenship to Hanks, Wilson, and their two children, in recognition of the familys help in raising funds for the victims of a deadly wildfire near Athens in 2018. They then used a military helicopter for a trip to the ancient theater of Epidaurus on Sunday to watch a performance of an ancient tragedy.

Trish Wilson, a Redford resident, has a cottage on Wixom Lake. Wixom Lake had been drained almost entirely after the dam failures. "This is where we have been coming since I was born.At about 5 p.m. Tuesday, the Edenville Dam that created Wixom Lake gave away. Wilson said she was near the dam when it happened and could hear the water rush through the trees. Wixom Lake flooded through the area.
Teen Girl Arrested for Allegedly Threatening to Shoot '400 People' at Her Former High
An Oklahoma teen has been arrested for allegedly threatening to shoot hundreds of people for fun at her former high school, police said. Alexis Wilson, 18, allegedly showed a co-worker at a local pizzeria videos of herself shooting a newly purchased rifle and spoke about her idea to open fire at McAlester High School in Pittsburg County, KOTV reported. She denied making such threats and allegedly admitted she suffered from mental health issues, including experiencing suicidal and homicidal thoughts, police said. Authorities said Wilson told them she was trying to tell a co-worker that not every gun owner is bad. Nobody does.Wilson attended McAlester High School, the school she allegedly threatened to target, but reportedly dropped out in the ninth grade.
Report reveals flaws with Wyandotte Public Schools volunteer policy
WYANDOTTE, Mich. - A new report reveals the flawed policy that led to a convicted felon being allowed to volunteer inside Wyandotte schools. A 14-page report reveals the district paid a law firm to tell them what many parents felt was obvious, that the policy needed to be changed. Following a packed special meeting of the Wyandotte School Board it was determined that changes were needed to prevent another convicted felon from ever volunteering in the district. In 2016, the report shows Beebe "advised Ms. Wilson (principal) he had a felony that was approximately 20 years old." The report shows a total of 15 people were interviewed.
