DETROIT โ Dozens of burning cars are sending plumes of smoke into the air as a massive fire rips through a junkyard on Detroitโs west side. Detroit firefighters have declared a โhazmat level 1โณ situation due to hazardous materials inside those vehicles, officials said. The hazmat level 1 situation was declared because of the possible dangerous chemical situation. Trains have been stopped from passing on the nearby railroad tracks because the fire is spreading near those tracks, officials said.

The officers were inside a police SUV on Wednesday heading south on Meyers Road, according to authorities. When the SUV got to Schoolcraft, it was involved in a crash with a van heading west, officials said. Woman in serious condition after drive-by Detroit shooting
DETROIT โ A 21-year-old woman was injured in a drive-by shooting early Saturday morning. Police say around 2:03 a.m. the woman was at a gathering in the area of West McNichols and Meyers roads when an unknown vehicle drove by and someone inside fired shots, striking the woman. She was taken to the hospital and listed in temporary serious condition, police said. This is an ongoing investigation. 49-year-old man stabbed multiple times at Royal Oak Township hotel, police say
ROYAL OAK TOWNSHIP, Mich. Michigan State Police (MSP) are investigating a stabbing at a Royal Oak Township hotel that left a man in serious condition Saturday morning. According to a tweet from MSP Metro Detroit, around 6 a.m. 49-year-old man was stabbed during an argument with an individual in the third-floor hallway of the Baymont by Wyndham hotel. MSP Metro Detroit (@mspmetrodet) July 4, 2020The victim was taken to the hospital and listed in serious condition. Police search for killer after more than a dozen shots fired at Detroit gas station
DETROIT Police are looking for a killer on Detroits west side after more than a dozen shots were fired at a gas station. Witnesses said at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday Bernard Holmes, 60, was involved in an argument with another man at the Marathon gas station at West Chicago and Meyers Road in Detroit. One witness said they saw the men chasing each other around the gas pumps while holding the gas nozzles. Detroit Health Department breaks down COVID-19 cases by zip code
DETROIT โ The city of Detroit is now mapping cases by zip code. The zip code 48235 in the Northwest part of the city near Eight Mile Road and Southfield Freeway has the most cases. Updated April 18 -- Michigan coronavirus (COVID-19) cases up to 30,791; Death toll now at 2,308 with 3,237 recoveries reportedโI hope you can see the yellow line thatโs Detroit. As of mid April, Detroitโs Health Department says there are 7,947 positive COVID-19 cases and 590 deaths, in the city alone. Zip code is 48221 is also in the top three with 507 cases.
Detroit is now mapping COVID-19 cases by ZIP code
DETROIT โ The Detroit Health Department has started releasing COVID-19 cases by ZIP code. According the new map released Saturday, April 18, the 48235 ZIP code -- south of 8 Mile Road, north of Puritan Avenue and between the Southfield Freeway and Meyers Road -- has the most confirmed cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) with 724 cases. Take a look at the map here. The city says some ZIP codes with very low case counts are excluded from the map to protect privacy. Man shoots driver who didnโt let him merge onto Meyers Road on Detroitโs west side, police say
DETROIT โ A man angry that another driver didnโt let him merge onto Meyers Road in Detroit pulled up alongside that driver and shot him, police said. The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. Feb. 1 at the intersection of Puritan Avenue and James Couzens Freeway, according to authorities. A man in a Silver Mazda Hatchback tried to merge onto Meyers Road on Detroitโs west side in front of a 35-year-old man, officials said. The 35-year-old man didnโt allow the Hatchback to merge, so the driver followed him to Puritan Avenue and James Couzens Freeway, according to police. The 35-year-old man was struck by gunfire, but still managed to drive himself to the 13000 block of Puritan Avenue, police said.
