Man dies after boat hits post in St. Clair River
ST. CLAIR COUNTY, MI – A St. Clair County man died late Saturday when the boat he was in crashed into a post, police said. The incident occurred in the St. Clair River, near Algonac, at around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office. An 18-foot 2009 Lund boat operated by a 67-year-old Algonac man struck a post, causing injuries to all three men aboard the vessel. The operator and a 72-year-old Harrison Township man were taken to a Macomb County hospital and are in stable condition, per the sheriff’s office. The incident remains under investigation by the St. Clair County Detective Bureau and Marine Patrol.

As agents watched a camera surveillance system overseeing an area between Michigan and Canada known for smuggling, they discovered a boat where they later arrested a 53-year-old Dominican man as well as a 25- and 26-year-old woman from Mexico, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials reported.

Grass Lake saw its softball season come to a close in Tuesday’s Division 3 quarterfinal at Adrian College with a 5-4 loss to Algonac as the Muskrats jumped ahead thanks to a two-run seventh. Algonac’s Deanna Delange hit a two-out, two-run double to sink the Warriors. Grass Lake had the winning run on base in the bottom of the seventh before a groundout ended it. The Muskrats loaded the bases again in the fifth before Brianna Thomason hit a two-out, two-run double to get Algonac within a run. That tie didn’t last long as Turner led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run to make it 4-3 Grass Lake.

ALGONAC, MI – As temperatures dropped mid-week, the St. Clair River rose 18 inches and froze over in areas, causing ice jams that contributed to flooding northeast of Detroit, the Associated Press reports. The U.S. and Canadian coast guards deployed icebreaking ships to clear the jams and relieve flooding, The AP reports. Water levels on the river along Algonac rose at least 18 inches in one day, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Deputies with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office responded shortly before 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8 for a report of a two-vehicle crash on St. Clair River Drive near Liberty Street in Algonac. A 68-year-old Algonac man was driving a 2020 Kia Forte and headed north on St. Clair River Drive when he crossed over the center line. The Kia’s driver was taken to McLaren Macomb Hospital by TRI-Hospital EMS and was originally listed in critical condition. Accident investigators believe the Kia’s driver may have experienced a medical incident prior to the crash.

COVID-19 case confirmed at Club Capri restaurant in Algonac, possible exposure
ALGONAC, Mich. A COVID-19 case has been confirmed at the Club Capri in Algonac, St. Clair County Health Department announced Wednesday. Department officials said the confirmed case is from an employee. Anyone who visited the restaurant on July 18 and 19 may have been exposed and encouraged to monitor for symptoms for 14 days. The restaurant will remain open and management is working with department officials. As of Wednesday, 80,172 confirmed cases were reported in Michigan, with 6,172 deaths and 57,502 recoveries.

The day ahead will feature partial cloud cover early this morning, followed by mostly sunny skies for the balance of the day. It'll be a windy day, though, with west winds at 15 to 25 mph, with gusts over 30 mph possible. These winds have prompted a Lakeshore Flood Warning for the Harsens Island / Algonac area. Highs today will reach the mid to upper 70s, but even cooler air is headed this way for the weekend.
Westland man shot, dropped off at Algonac Fire Department
ALGONAC, Mich. – A 31-year-old Westland man was shot Monday in Algonac. According to authorities, it happened at about 7 p.m. in the 800 block of St. Clair River Drive. The victim was taken to the fire department before he was rushed to a hospital. Police do not believe it was a random shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
