FENTON, MI - A new Texas Roadhouse restaurant is opening in Fenton on Silver Parkway. The 8,039 square foot building had a site plan review approved on Sept. 22 at the address 18555 Silver Parkway, with construction starting last week. Jason Payne, building official administrator for the city of Fenton, told MLive-The Flint Journal it will take approximately four months to construct the new restaurant. An opening date has not been determined. Texas Roadhouse is an American steakhouse chain that specializes in steaks in a Texan and Southwestern cuisine style.

In Flint Township, the crossing of Corunna and South Linden roads also made the list of top accident intersections for the second straight year with 30 crashes, resulting in six injuries. GENESEE COUNTY, MI – A 39-year-old Davison man is lodged in the Genesee County Jail after allegedly stealing a golf cart and driving it to a nearby road before breaking into the house, authorities said. Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson said during a news conference Wednesday, Oct. 5, that Aaron Matthew Braham was arrested after breaking into a home in the 1200 block of Margaret Drive on Saturday, Oct. 1. Swanson said Braham approached four people golfing at the Fenton Farms Golf Course off Torrey Road. in Fenton, and told them he was going to take their golf cart. He was able to enter one home through a sunroom, Swanson said, before being arrested by Genesee County Sheriff’s deputies.

Heavner received 22,716 of the 49,666 votes cast – that’s 45.7 percent – to finish ahead of Grand Blanc swimmer Allyson Quitos, who received 11,276 votes. Lapeer soccer player Carter Dundas finished third with 4,975 votes, Karlie Schlaud of North Branch’s cross country team was fourth with 4,348 and Connor Martin of Lapeer’s cross country team was fifth with 3,760. Schlaud won girls portion of The Country Press Invitational with a time of 20:25.81. Martin won the boys race in The County Press Invitational with a time of 16:30.

FENTON, MI - Expect major changes coming to the Dauner Haus Apartments of Fenton. Dauner Haus is receiving $28 million in loans to preserve and upgrade 192 affordable housing units for seniors and families. “The Dauner Haus in Fenton is an existing development, so it’s just coming in to refine and reset the project,” said John Hundt, Housing Development Manager for MSHDA. He added that the complex did not need any gap financing -- just permanent debt and low income housing tax credit. The application was submitted by Continental Management, the company that owns Dauner Haus, last April.

FENTON, MI -- A free service weekend trolley that will serve the Fenton community has begun operation. The Fenton Trolley, provided by the Mass Transportation Authority, will take residents all the way from North Leroy Street to downtown to Silver Parkway. The trolley service has stops along the way at shopping centers and restaurants throughout Fenton, according to a news release from the city. Currently, the trolley service will remain free of charge for a trial period through Dec. 4, according to the city. Stops, service hours, days of operation and price will be evaluated as the trolley service continues, Paul Mattern, manager of planning and scheduling for the Mass Transportation Authority, said in the release.

FENTON, MI – The city of Fenton will soon be receiving ambulance services from a new agency. City officials cited a nationwide crisis for emergency medical services for STAT EMS ending its relationship with Fenton. Fenton joins several other municipalities across Genesee County that have contracted EMS services with Medstar. In March, 11 communities entered into service agreements with Medstar, including Atlas Township, Davison, Davison Township, Fenton Township, Forest Township, Richfield Township, Mundy Township, Gaines Township, and the villages of Gaines, Goodrich, and Otisville. Those communities joined more than 70 others across the state in contracting for EMS services.

FENTON, MI – A pair of businesses sustained heavy damage Tuesday afternoon from a fire near downtown Fenton. Fenton firefighters were dispatched to the area of South Adelaide and Mill streets around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, following reports of a dumpster on fire, according to Fenton Fire Chief Robert Carinduff. The flames spread to a tree, which allowed a barn used for storage for another nearby business to catch fire. FENTON, MI – A Michigan home healthcare provider is liable to pay more than $93,000 in back overtime pay and damages to 23 workers after failing to update its pay practices when a law changed, a federal judge ruled. Independent Home Care of Michigan LLC and its owners Mary Clark and Kathryn Flick owe $93,331 to companion workers, including $46,665 in back wages, after failing to pay overtime from Jan. 23, 2018, through June 1, 2019. The Fenton-based company was in violation of the Home Health Care Final Rule of 2013 that requires staffing agencies to pay overtime to companion services workers after 40 hours. However, the court found the company failed to take active steps to comply with the law and ordered damages to be paid. Independent Home Care of Michigan provides companionship services to individuals with mental, intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Detroit homeowner shoots and kills man during attempted break-in
DETROIT – A 22-year-old man was shot and killed during a home invasion in the 17600 block of Fenton in Detroit on Monday evening. According to police, the home invasion suspect was killed around 7 p.m. yesterday by a 36-year-old resident of the home after entering it without permission. Police reported that at some point during the incident the resident, a CPL holder, fired several shots at the suspect and killed him. At this point it is still uncertain whether the two knew each other. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Detroit Homicide Division at 313-596-2260.
State suspends 3 liquor licenses, cites 4 establishments for violating Michigan COVID order
Liquor licenses have been suspended at three Michigan establishments Wednesday for violating the state’s recent public health order meant to slow the spread of coronavirus. The Michigan Liquor Control Commission issued emergency suspensions of liquor licenses at the following establishments:Jimmy’s Roadhouse in Newaygo, permit held by Cory’s Restaurant, Inc. The MDHHS also announced Tuesday citations issued to numerous establishments accused of not complying with the latest emergency order. On Wednesday, the state reported 4,273 new COVID-19 cases and 73 new deaths in Michigan since Tuesday. In total, Michigan has reported 324,779 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 8,761 deaths.

FENTON, Mich. – The Genesee County Health Department has identified a funeral home as a potential coronavirus exposure site. Officials said Friday that one confirmed case of COVID-19 has been linked to a visitation and funeral service at the Sharp Funeral Home in Fenton on October 30. Michigan State University student killed in moped, pickup truck crash
Meridian Township Police say 20-year-old Sebastian Tyll of Fenton, Michigan, was driving a moped Friday morning when it collided with the truck, fatally injuring him. MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A Michigan State University student was killed when his moped collided with a pickup truck at an intersection near the school's campus. Meridian Township Police say 20-year-old Sebastian Tyll of Fenton, Michigan, was driving a moped Friday morning when it collided with the truck, fatally injuring him. Police tell the Lansing State Journal that Tyll was wearing a helmet. Alcohol isn't believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

FENTON, Mich. – The owners of an apple orchard in Fenton said thieves stripped the apples off 5 acres' worth of trees, stealing about 7,000 pounds of apples in total. Officials said a farm in Linden that is owned by Spicer Orchards in Fenton was targeted between Oct. 6 and Oct. 10. Matt Spicer, one of the owners of the business, said 7,000 apples translates to about $14,000 or $15,000. An apple farm in Linden, Michigan, owned by Spicer Orchards.
