The hazing scandal at Northwestern University has widened to include a volleyball player who has become the first female athlete to sue the university over allegations she was retaliated against for reporting mistreatment and a new lawsuit by former Northwestern quarterback Lloyd Yates.

Woman in critical condition after car gets wedged under semi truck in Detroit
DETROIT – A 21-year-old woman is in critical condition Thursday after a vehicle she was riding in became wedged beneath the trailer of a semi truck in Detroit. UPDATE March 16: Was it autopilot or driver error? A passenger in the Tesla -- an unidentified 21-year-old woman -- suffered from a head injury and was taken to the hospital, where she was listed in critical condition. Unidentified woman found laying outside, unresponsive in Detroit
DETROIT Detroit police are investigating what is believed to be a potential hit-and-run on the citys southwest side. Police say an unidentified woman was found laying on the sidewalk unresponsive in the area of Otis and Hammond streets around 6 a.m. Saturday. Medics arrived and pronounced the victim deceased, officials said. Police believe the woman may have been injured by a hit-and-run incident. Girl killed in Calif. 1972, DNA linked in 2019
iStock/zilli(CNN) - An 11-year-old girl went on a bike ride on Thanksgiving Day in 1972. The next day her body was found dumped on a rocky beach near the Pacific Ocean in Southern California. On Wednesday, Torrance police announced a suspect -- now dead -- has been identified through a match made on a national DNA database. Brown died in 2003 in Arizona. Experts exhumed his body and extracted his DNA, which was a one in 21 septillion match to DNA found on Terri's body, police said in a news release.

NYC pays $610,000 to woman forced to give birth in handcuffs
The lawsuit accused New York Police officers of unlawful use of restraints on a pregnant woman and several constitutional violations. The city of New York agreed to pay $610,000 to a woman whom police kept in shackles while she was in labor. At the hospital, doctors appealed to the officers to remove the restraints, saying they could endanger the woman and her child, the complaint said. After repeated protests from her doctors, the officers removed the shackles minutes before she gave birth, the complaint said. Co-counsel Ashok Chandran credited Montefiore physicians with advocating for the woman both in the moment and during the lawsuit.
