Man killed in hit-and-run by gas station shoplifters, $5K reward offered
REDFORD TOWNSHIP, MI – A 53-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run while working at a Marathon gas station in Redford Township over a month ago. The gas station owner is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case. On the night of Feb. 27, the victim was hit by a vehicle driven by shoplifters outside the store on Telegraph Road near I-96 in Redford Township, according to the report. Van Buren County gas station robbed at gunpoint
VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI – A gas station was robbed by two people Sunday evening. Two males holding handguns entered the Marathon gas station at 84060 County Road 687, in Keeler Township, around 8:10 p.m. on Feb. 20, Michigan State Police said in a Feb. 25 news release. The two gunmen were described as about 6 feet tall and wearing black sweatshirts and black face coverings, police said. California has 15 refineries with a combined crude oil processing capacity of 1.9 million bpd. Regarding the spinoff, Marathon said Speedway would trade as an independent public company after the separation is completed. All cars that show up at the Marathon gas station at the corner of Hayes and Hall roads in Macomb Township starting at 1:30 p.m. Saturday will receive $15 worth of free gas. The event is being held by the Lakeside Assembly of God Church. "Lakeside Church loves our community and wants to bless them with free gas," the church posted on its Facebook page. Macomb Township police officers and firefighters are expected to be at the scene to help make sure the event goes smoothly.
Activist wants Marathon Petroleum to split off Speedway gas stations and is gaining support
The call for Marathon Petroleum to split into separate businesses is gaining momentum among activist investors. Billionaire Paul Singer's hedge fund Elliott Management sent a letter to the board of Marathon on Wednesday, urging the refiner to divide into separate retail, midstream and refining companies to "remedy the company's chronic underperformance." Elliott owns about 2.5% in Marathon. Shaw, which owns a similar sized stake in Marathon as Elliott, is also supporting the breakup of Marathon, including spinning off Speedway gas stations, sources familiar with the matter told CNBC's David Faber. Leak at Marathon Refinery in Detroit contained, officials say
DETROIT - Officials were notified Thursday afternoon of a leak at the Marathon Refinery. The first report came in at 1:38 p.m. to the Detroit Homeland Security and Emergency Management office. The leak was, according to Marathon, emitting an oil vapor cloud in the area that did not pose a danger to the public. Air monitoring resources have been sent out by Marathon in nearby areas as a precaution, according to officials.
