Calvin Johnson Jr., Detroit Bishop Edgar Vann named Grand Marshals of America’s Thanksgiving Parade
The Parade Company announced Thursday that NFL Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson Jr. and Detroit Bishop Edgar Vann will be Grand Marshals for the 95th annual America’s Thanksgiving Parade presented by Gardner-White.
Central Michigan University will have its own float in Detroit’s Thanksgiving parade this year
MOUNT PLEASANT, MI - Central Michigan University will have its own maroon-and-gold float in this year’s America’s Thanksgiving Parade, held in Detroit Thursday, Nov. 25, according to a news release from the university. CMU is still designing the float, but it will be more than 100 feet long and 25 feet tall, according to the release. “America’s Thanksgiving Parade is a pinnacle Detroit tradition and also an event seen throughout the country,” CMU President Bob Davies said in the release. Those selected will be notified the week of Monday, Oct. 25, according to the release. No crowds allowed for Detroit’s Thanksgiving Parade
DETROIT -- The show will go on, but crowds will not be allowed to gather to watch the 94th annual America’s Thanksgiving Parade in Detroit this year. Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, The Parade Company announced Thursday this year’s event will be broadcast on WDIV Channel 4 Detroit and is formatted for a TV presentation. “Our team has reviewed every aspect with the city of Detroit and the Detroit Police Department to ensure a safe environment. The Hob Nobble Gobble at Ford Field, which benefits The Parade Company will return in 2021. The change in this year’s parade is similar to how the city handled the Fourth of July Fireworks celebration in which no crowds could gather downtown, but the event was broadcast for viewers at home.
