Moore, who just bought Guido’s Premium Pizza in Grand Blanc last December, also owns locations in Hartland and Brighton. EAST LANSING -- Detroit Cass Tech basketball coach Steve Hall admitted how bleak things looked for his team on Friday afternoon. Cass Tech trailed Grand Blanc, 54-51, with 9.1 seconds left in the Division 1 state semifinals and had a full court in front of them coming out of a timeout. Luckily for Cass Tech (26-1), sophomore guard Darius Acuff went into hero mode as he had done many times before. Darius Acuff banks in the 3 to make it 54-54 between Detroit Cass Tech and Grand Blanc!! Before his time at Cass Tech, Hall coached a now-closed Detroit Rogers to three consecutive championships form 2003-05.

FLINT, MI – After nearly a week of deliberations, the trial of a Grand Blanc-area hypnotherapist accused of sexually assaulting clients has ended with a hung jury. A jury of 12 people returned Friday, March 24, announcing it was deadlocked in the trial of 71-year-old John Gary Tomlinson.

GRAND BLANC TWP., MI – Authorities on Thursday detailed sex abuse cases against two people accused of sexually assaulting a Genesee County girl when she was 9 years old. The two suspects, a 37-year-old woman and a 59-year-old man, both from Burton, were arrested Tuesday, March 21, and are each charged with more than 20 felonies in the case.

They’ll play second-ranked Detroit Cass Tech at noon Friday at the Breslin Center in East Lansing for a third straight berth in the state championship game. “Those seniors, we wanted to send them out the right way,” said Grand Blanc coach Tory Jackson, whose team was No. “It’s a standard we’ve created at Grand Blanc,” said Taylor, who has a 17-1 postseason record during his brilliant career. “Every year, our class has been in high school and there’s been a state tournament, we’ve been in the state championship game. Grand Blanc will take a 25-2 record into the semifinals after winning its last 22 games.

FLINT – The first time Grand Blanc and Mount Pleasant met this season, the Bobcats won by 25 points. So it only makes sense that their second meeting for the Division 1 regional championship at Saginaw Heritage would be another easy win.

FLUSHING – Grand Blanc’s offense has been so good this season that it often overshadows the Bobcats’ performance at the other end of the court. But it was defense that propelled the Bobcats to a 72-55 victory over Carman-Ainsworth Monday in the Division 1 regional semifinal at Flushing.

Kevin Tiggs added 19 points and Jacoby Holliday chipped in nine for Beecher (19-4). Hamady 54, Corunna 35Amari’yunn Blythe scored 19 points, Sean Byrd had 12 and Warren Cain chipped in 11 for Hamady (18-4). Landon Williams added 15 points and 17 rebounds, Josh Waun scored 13 points and Gavin Hart had 12. Fenton 50, Hartland 42Ja’Hion Bond scored 13 points for Fenton, which won its first district title since 2012. Gage Graham and Sam Dillard added 13 points apiece for the Tigers (18-6).

FLINT – Seven Flint-area boys basketball teams won district championships and will be advancing to the regionals next week. The regionals begin March 13 and the winners will advance to the stte quarterfinals March 21. The semifinals will be March 23-24 at the finals are March 25 at the Breslin Center in East Lansing. FLINT, MI – Genesee County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Johnathan Poulos began the trial of a Grand Blanc-area hypnotherapist accused of sexually assaulting women he was hired to treat in an unusual way Thursday: he paid him a compliment. Poulos said John Tomlinson was good at his job.

FLUSHING, MI – Carman-Ainsworth is the lone remaining unbeaten Flint-area team in the girls basketball state tournament but their record isn’t something the Cavaliers have talked much about. Especially heading into Tuesday’s Division 1 regional semifinal game against Grand Blanc.

Metro Detroit received another heavy dose of snow Friday evening and into the night, with some cities reporting more than 10 inches.

FLINT – Grand Blanc is headed to the regional round of the girls basketball state tournament for the third straight year. The Bobcats won the Division 1 district championship Friday at Lapeer with a 66-30 win over Oxford.

FLINT, MI — Grand Blanc. Grand Blanc defeated Beecher with a 57-43 victory to finish the regular season riding a 17-game winning streak with the state tournament beginning next week. Grand Blanc (20-2) led by 11 points early in the third quarter before Beecher pulled within 37-33 with 3:06 left. But the Bucs went almost seven minutes without scoring while Grand Blanc reeled off 10 straight points. Tae Boyd led Grand Blanc with 16 points, R.J. Taylor added 11, Bryce O’Mara chipped in 10 and Trevon Johnson had eight.

FLINT – What was being billed as the boys basketball Game of the Year never materialized Thursday night. The showdown between Grand Blanc and Beecher fizzled as neither team played its best before an estimated crowd of 2,800 at the Dort Financial Center.

FLINT – Grand Blanc finished the Saginaw Valley League season unbeaten for the second straight year after beating host Mount Pleasant 62-37 Friday night. R.J. Taylor led the Bobcats with 23 points and six rebounds.

GRAND BLANC, MI – The competition was stiff for Grand Blanc High School graduate Shriya Yarlagadda during her appearance on the Jeopardy! High School Reunion Tournament. The Harvard University sophomore, during her quarterfinal round that was aired on Thursday, Feb. 23, missed a chance to advance to the semifinals by less than $2,000.

FLINT – What’s shaping up as the biggest game of the high school basketball season in the Flint area will be played on the biggest stage. Beecher and Grand Blanc will meet March 2 in the final game of the regular season at the Dort Financial Center, which seats almost 4,000 people.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, MI -- The 18-year-old Grand Blanc man arrested last week for impersonating a firefighter has been arraigned on two felony charges. Clark identified himself a Brighton firefighter to firefighters on scene at an Unadilla Township structure fire on 2:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 13, according to Unadilla Township Police Department. When he arrived on scene, Clark had minimal firefighting equipment, including a helmet, safety vest and a radio. When officers found Clark, he told them he had responded to the Livingston County fire, as well as fires in surrounding counties, police said. Clark was released on a $5,000 bond from the Livingston County Jail.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, MI -- A Grand Blanc 18-year-old was arrested and charged last week for impersonating a firefighter. Firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire around 2:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, in Livingston County’s Unadilla Township, according to the Unadilla Township Police Department. When officers found the man, he told them he had responded to the Livingston County fire, as well as fires in surrounding counties, police said. The man, who has not been identified by police, was arrested and charged with two felonies, including Impersonating a firefighter and use of a receiver or scanner in the commission of a felony. The suspect is lodged in the Livingston County Jail.

GRAND BLANC, MI – A 2021 Grand Blanc High School graduate that attends Harvard University will soon appear on television screens across the country. The Grand Blanc graduate first appeared on the show’s teen tournaments four seasons ago. Related: Harvard student from Grand Blanc selected for Jeopardy! The high school reunion tournament began on Monday, Feb. 20 and will air until March 9. Yarlagadda was named U.S. Presidential Scholar during her senior year at Grand Blanc High School in 2021.

GRAND BLANC TWP., MI – A 22-year-old woman police said had a blood-alcohol level of .29 was arrested this week after police said she drove the wrong way on the freeway, nearly causing several head-on crashes. The first calls reported that the vehicle was near Hill Road and traveling at a high rate of speed. Callers reported near head-on crashes as the vehicle made its way onto Interstate 75. A sergeant with the Grand Blanc Township Police Department responded from the 9000 block of Holly Road. The driver was arrested, and charges of operating while intoxicated and reckless driving are expected, police said.

FLINT, MI – New charges could be filed against a Grand Blanc area man accused of sending emails to Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton and others, threatening to “martyr himself” in Flint City Hall during a council meeting. Baran, who said he received a new disk of evidence from the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office Wednesday morning and has yet to fully examine the contents. The prosecutor said previously that he had received “a series of concerning emails” that he described as threatening in nature from Frutchey. Patrick McCombs, the assistant prosecuting attorney handling the case, said new charges could be filed against Frutchey based on the new evidence turned over Wednesday. GRAND BLANC, MI – Mike McKay didn’t recognize the team he saw on the floor in the first half Tuesday night. This wasn’t the same Grand Blanc team that had won 14 of its first 18 games and was in the hunt for the Saginaw Valley League championship.

FLINT – Eight Flint-area wrestling teams won district championships this week to earn spots in next week’s team regionals. That group includes two-time defending state champion Davison, which won the Division 1 district at Grand Blanc.

FLINT – We could have a new No. 1 team after Friday’s showdown between Grand Blanc and Davison. Both teams are playing awfully well right now and will be facing off for first place in the Saginaw Valley League.

GRAND BLANC, MI – Tae Boyd already has a state high school championship on his resume. Now, he’ll be chasing a national college championship in the near future.

GRAND RAPIDS - R.J. Taylor doesn’t have to score to have an impact on his team. The Grand Blanc senior struggled offensively, but his steal with 1:02 left in the game led to the game-winning bucket as the Bobcats rallied to beat Rockford 53-50 on Saturday night in the 2K23 Showcase at Aquinas College.

FLINT, MI -- A Grand Blanc area man has been arraigned on felony charges of making a false report or threat of terrorism and using a computer to commit a crime after he was arrested last week inside Flint City Hall. Mark W. Frutchey, 52, was arraigned in Genesee District Court on Saturday, Jan. 21, and released on bond, according to court records. Frutchey was confronted by police at a Flint council committee meeting Jan. 18 after police and prosecutors allege he sent emails to Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton and others, threatening to “martyr himself” in City Hall during a council meeting. Frutchey, who spoke at the council meeting, said he asked Flint police to investigate a car theft and told council members that public officials and police subsequently lied and failed to pursue the case to protect the thief and his father, an area doctor. FLINT, MI — A 52-year-old Grand Blanc has been arrested and held overnight in the Genesee County Jail after police said he sent a series of threatening emails to county Prosecutor David Leyton. “There’s a difference between First Amendment rights and threats.”The council committee meeting was recessed Wednesday after police appeared in the council chambers inside Flint City Hall. After police appeared at the meeting, 1st Ward Councilman Eric Mays questioned why officers were gathering in council chambers and the meeting was recessed. He declined to comment in detail about the situation but said the emails were threatening in nature. GRAND BLANC, MI -- All Board of Education officers in Grand Blanc Community Schools will continue to serve in the same positions in 2023. Susan Kish, the 2022 board president who was reelected for another six-year term in November, will again serve as board president in 2023. Martin Ray was retained as board vice president, Meredith Anderson was retained as board secretary and Yasmeen Youngs will continue as the board treasurer. Kish, Anderson, Youngs and 2022 newcomer Ryan Yelen were all sworn-in to new terms on the Grand Blanc Board of Education at its Monday, Jan. 9 meeting. Grand Blanc was one of few school districts in Genesee County that reelected all current members of the Board of Education to another term.

He was a math teacher at the high school and served as the P.A. announcer for football and basketball games dating back to his days as a Grand Blanc student.

GRAND BLANC, Mich. – A wanted fugitive was arrested in Grand Blanc on Thursday after escaping custody nearly 50 years ago. On June 1, 1971, Leonard Rayne Moses escaped the custody of law enforcement officials while attending his grandmother’s funeral in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Moses will now have to face justice for her murder.”The FBI said Moses assumed the identity of Paul Dickson. He was arrested earlier this year on Michigan state charges and his fingerprints were entered into a nationwide database in October. “The arrest of Leonard Moses brings a measure of closure to the family of the victim, Mary Amplo,” said Allegheny County Sheriff William Mullen.

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A Waterford Township police officer is off the job after it was discovered that Grand Blanc police have been investigating him for criminal sexual conduct. Police will only say the third-degree criminal sexual conduct charges stem from an incident in Grand Blanc last year. It took until May 30 for officer Kevin Thompson to be charged and arraigned. Grand Blanc said it has no booking photo of him. In a statement, police Chief Scott Underwood says in part "the alleged incident took place while Thompson was off duty and didn't occur in the township of Waterford."

Video shows a naked Cleaves pulling a woman, who is also naked, back into a hotel room and motioning to a driver inside a white van. Cleaves' defense team said in court he was simply trying to prevent her from running off without any clothes on.
