Design for new apartments inspired by University of Michigan’s Big House

ANN ARBOR, MI — The development team behind a 450-unit apartment complex coming to Ann Arbor’s South Main Street has unveiled new design drawings inspired by the University of Michigan’s Big House just down the street. Once known as the Valhalla development because of its location off Valhalla Drive, the complex approved by the city last year is now rebranded as the Arbour on Main, with refinements to make the project greener and incorporate local contextual cues.

ANN ARBOR, MI -- Firefighters are battling a house fire in Ann Arbor. As of 8:22 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, a two-story house in the 1000 block of South Main Street between Hoover Street and Pauline Boulevard was on fire. Video footage recorded by an MLive employee showed flames emanating from the structure’s roof, with firefighters dousing them with water. It is unknown at this time if any injuries have been reported. MLive was unable to reach the Ann Arbor Fire Department for comment.

City of Ann Arbor: Sanitary sewage flows onto S. Main Street for second time during relining project

ANN ARBOR – An estimated 50 gallons of sanitary sewage was released onto South Main Street on Wednesday morning after a contractor’s attempt to divert the sanitary sewer flow failed. This is the second incident to occur at the same site since Feb. 22, when an estimated 10,000 gallons of sewage was released onto South Main Street as a result of a failure during an ongoing sanitary sewer relining project. “The pipe was diverting sanitary sewer flow while the contractor cleaned the sanitary sewer main in advance of lining the pipe,” reads a news release. The contractor will be charged with all costs to the city related to the incident. The city of Ann Arbor notified the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy of the incident, in accordance with protocols.

ANN ARBOR – UPDATE: All lanes of this area of S. Main Street have reopened. Currently all lanes are closed between Madison and Packard as crews work to repair a sanitary sewer line, according to an update from the city of Ann Arbor. South Main Street in Ann Arbor to close Thursday for crane work

ANN ARBOR – The city will be closing both directions of South Main Street between East William Street and Packard Street on Thursday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. to facilitate crane work. The city has posted this detour map so drivers are aware of what to expect. The closure will only affect a one-block stretch of road, but with Main Street being a major thoroughfare, the detours may slightly slow your commute. Access will be maintained for local businesses at all times during the construction work while pedestrians will also be detoured along the same route as vehicles. Construction on Packard to shift traffic in downtown Ann Arbor next week

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – If you are planning to use Packard Street when heading downtown next week, expect a detour. On Monday, Jan. 11, traffic on Packard Street between South Fourth Avenue and South Main Street will be detoured to make room for utility work on the west side of the road. Westbound drivers will be detoured north on South Fourth Avenue, west on East William Street and then onto South Main Street, according to a notice on the city of Ann Arbor traffic website. Traffic being rerouted across Ann Arbor on Monday for construction

ANN ARBOR, MI -- Crews are shifting traffic for construction projects in Ann Arbor starting Monday. Traffic on Wall Street, from Maiden Lane Court to Broadway Street, is being rerouted at 7 a.m. Nov. 9 through Friday, Nov. 13, for sanitary sewer construction work necessary to complete a new parking structure between Maiden Lane Court and Wall Street, according to a news release. Northwest-bound Wall Street traffic is being detoured at Maiden Lane Court to continue to Maiden Lane Court to Broadway Street, Plymouth Road or Moore Street. New Ann Arbor roads closures to start Monday

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Expect delays next Monday when two new road closures in downtown Ann Arbor begin. Northwest-bound traffic will use Maiden Lane to access Broadway Street, Plymouth Road or Moore Street. At 9 a.m. the same day, East William Street between South Main Street and South Fourth Avenue will close for ten days for road work. Eastbound traffic on West William Street will be detoured to South Main Street, Packard Street, South Fourth Avenue and onto East William Street. Traffic coming in the opposite direction will do the reverse by detouring to South Fourth Avenue, Packard Street, South Main Street and then to West William Street.

Downtown Ann Arbor streets to close until 2022 for high-rise construction

ANN ARBOR, MI -- Two downtown Ann Arbor streets will be limited to traffic through 2022 for the construction of a new residential building. Northbound South Main Street, from Packard to East William Street, and East William Street, from South Main Street to South Fourth Avenue, will be closed to make room for the project, according to a news release. A stretch of the eastbound lane on East William Street will also close to provide a pedestrian access tunnel from South Main Street to the alley between South Main Street and South Fourth Avenue, according to a news release. Road closures for University of Michigan home football games approved by Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, MI -- Roads near The Big House will close and be converted to vehicle-free zones for four University of Michigan home football games. The Ann Arbor City Council approved the closure of the northbound lane of South Main Street between Pauline and Stadium boulevards at its Monday, Oct. 19 meeting. The university will also close East Keech Street between South Main Street and Kipke Drive. The area will be restricted at “police-controlled access points" depending on individuals needing to enter or leave properties along South Main Street. Drivers heading north on South Main Street will be detoured west on Stadium Boulevard, north on Seventh Street, west on Pauline Boulevard and back to Main Street.

‘Healthy Streets’ initiative ending outside downtown Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, MI -- An initiative to reconfigure roads to promote distancing during the coronavirus pandemic is ending in some areas outside of downtown Ann Arbor. The Ann Arbor City Council approved the Healthy Streets initiative in July, allowing leaders to repurpose parking or travel lanes to accommodate spaces for pedestrians and cyclists or establishing barricades to allow only local traffic to access neighborhoods. Street closures, parking restrictions to know about ahead of LaLiga-Serie A Cup game on Saturday

ANN ARBOR - While we still have a few weeks until college football starts up again, another type of football is coming to Michigan Stadium this weekend. On Saturday at 5 p.m., FC Barcelona will face off against SSC Napoli in a friendly LaLiga-Serie A Cup game. The same protocols apply as home football game days, according to the city of Ann Arbor. Starting on Friday at 5 p.m., construction on South State Street will be suspended temporarily to open the street in both directions.
