DETROIT โ A high speed chase involving the Detroit Police Department and Michigan State Police came to an end with one officerโs cruiser T-boned. So I think they get stunned a little bit at first that weโre able to keep up with them,โ Lt. Shaw added. โThe suspect had ran a stop sign there and T-boned into a patrol car. That patrol car and the charger kind of went off into the area, hit a fence and a couple of parked cars that were parked over there,โ said Lt. Shaw. Bognear is concerned about his fence and how close the chase came to hitting his home.

Police say the man was speeding on the Lodge Freeway near 8 Mile inside of a Dodge Charger. He was arrested for reckless driving and is being held in the Detroit Detention Center while the Wayne County Prosecutorโs Office reviews the case. After searching the manโs vehicle police found a loaded handgun inside of it.
Rise in speeding drivers puts Macomb neighborhood children at risk, residents say
MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ Since the coronavirus pandemic began, one Metro Detroit neighborhood saw a dramatic rise in speeding vehicles. Drivers have used the Macomb Township neighborhood as a way to cut through, putting children and families at risk. โBut this feels like a main road.โLocal 4 Defenders set up a radar gun and caught drivers going way over the speed limit in the neighborhood filled with children. Residents said the Macomb County Sheriffโs Office was asked to patrol the area, but all they did was put up a device to track a vehicleโs speed. Since the Defenders began looking into the problem, the Sheriffโs Office reinstated the radar trailer in the subdivision to gather more data from speeders.
Police to step up neighborhood patrols in Warren
WARREN, Mich. โ Police in Warren are launching a new effort starting Friday to make neighborhoods safer. Warren Mayor Jim Fouts said the people who live in Warren are concerned about the safety of their neighborhoods. The speed limit is 25 miles per hour and he said he gets calls about people doing 70 miles per hour. Fouts hopes the increased patrol in certain neighborhoods will protect children as we approach Halloween. He also hopes the police presence has a lasting effect on the relationship between residents and law enforcement.
Detroit neighborhood pushes for speed bumps after 8-year-old girl killed by speeding driver
The calls for action come just days after an 8-year-old girl was killed by a speeding car on Conner Street. Residents said they see drivers speeding down the street everyday and want the city to do something before another child is killed. She was only 16 years old, flying up the street, doing like 80 (miles per hour) up the street,โ Hill said. โWe need speed bumps and weโve been needing speed bumps for years,โ Hill said. This year alone we are installing more than 1200 speed cushions at 800 locations and are evaluating this stretch of Conner for possible speed cushions in the near future.

Owens is replaying the horrific details of a crash that killed 8-year-old Lauren Johnson Sunday afternoon at about 3:40 p.m. on Conner Street. โShe (the driver) was coming from the corner, she almost hit my niece at the corner, came flying. โPeople fly up and down this street with no regards to life,โ said Denice Hinson, who also witnessed the incident. You took an 8-year-old life and nobody can bring that baby back.
Driver killed in I-96 rollover crash in Detroit
DETROIT โ Michigan State Police are investigating a fatal single car crash that killed a 22-year-old man in Detroit on Saturday. Police say around 4 p.m. the Detroit man was traveling westbound at a high speed on the I-96 local lanes exit to Grand River Avenue and Schaefer Highway when he lost control of the vehicle. The man hit the wall at the base of the ramp and then rolled down the freeway, officials said. According to police the man was ejected from the vehicle. Officials say excessive speed and failure to wear a seatbelt are factors in the single car crash.
2-year-old boy killed, children left critically injured in Detroit crash
DETROIT A 2-year-old boy was killed in a crash that left two other children critically injured, Detroit police say. As a result of the crash, everyone in the 2019 Nissan Versa was injured and one person died. The 2019 Nissan Versa had three children and two other adults inside. The other passengers include a 29-year-old man, 19-year-old woman, the 2-year-old and 5-year-old girls listed in critical condition, and the 2-year-old boy who died. The driver and passenger of the GMC Acadia were taken to a local hospital and listed in stable condition.

BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ Police clocked a driver traveling 110 mph over the speed limit on I-75 in Monroe County earlier this month. The driver was pulled over at about 11:45 p.m. April 19 for driving 180 mph in a 70 mph zone on southbound I-75 near Sigler Road in Berlin Township. According to the citation, the driver told police, โMy fault. I was speeding with another vehicle. Police said there has been an increase in speeding during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

WYANDOTTE, Mich. โ Wyandotte police clocked a man driving 104 mph in a 30 mph zone April 13. An officer stopped the man on on Biddle Avenue, near Plum Street, around 8 p.m.Police said the officer smelled alcohol coming from the 71-year-old Grosse Ile manโs vehicle. The man told the officer he had two drinks. The man failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. The man blew .12 and .13 on a breathalyzer test during booking, police said.

Children injured when vehicle traveling more than 80 mph slams into SUV on Detroitโs east side
DETROIT โ Two children were injured Tuesday afternoon when the vehicle they were in slammed into another vehicle in Detroit. An SUV was pulling onto E. Warren Avenue from Algonquin Street when it was hit by a black Cadillac Escalade that was traveling more than 80 mph, officials said. The children were in the Escalade, which ran into a tree after striking the SUV. A woman who witnessed the crash described seeing the Escalade speeding before smashing into the other vehicle. All four people who were in the Escalade, including the two young children, were taken to a hospital.
