What it takes to safely transport Pfizerโs COVID vaccine to hospitals
RELATED: FDA authorizes Pfizerโs COVID vaccine; Michigan will distribute in 4 phasesOnce those shipments are packed and ready to leave Pfizer, itโs a painstaking process to make sure they arrive safely to hospitals. Boxes are loaded with the vaccine, dry ice and GPS trackers because time and temperature are critical. The Pfizer vaccine needs to be stored at 100 degrees below zero Fahrenheit. To maintain a sustainable temperature during transport, crews are using tons of dry ice -- carbon dioxide that has been cooled to at least 110 degrees below zero Fahrenheit, becoming solid. When dry ice melts, it emits carbon dioxide, so the FAA is requiring crews to wear carbon dioxide detectors inside the pressurized and sealed airplanes transporting the virus.

Manslaughter conviction overturned in Michigan shaken baby case
DETROIT - The Michigan appeals court has overturned the manslaughter conviction of a Battle Creek man who was accused of causing fatal injuries by shaking his 5-month-old son. Shawn Brown's trial lawyer was ineffective for failing to present an expert to question the Calhoun County prosecutor's theory of the case, the appeals court said last week. His appeal was handled by the Innocence Clinic at University of Michigan law school, which has challenged many so-called shaken baby convictions. At a minimum, the appeals court said, different opinions would have "given the jury another plausible option" for the cause of death. Prosecutor David Gilbert could ask the Michigan Supreme Court to review the appeals court decision and reinstate the convictions.
