Former Michigan State University basketball walk-on donates $32 million to school
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State University athletics received millions of dollars in a major donation from one of its winningest basketball players, on and off the court. Mat Ishbia -- the CEO of United Wholesale Mortgage, 1998 Spartan basketball walk-on and 2000 NCAA champion -- recently donated $32 million to his alma mater. Twenty million dollars of the donation will help change the face of Michigan State, expanding the football center and improving the auditorium, locker rooms and dining halls. “This is not only a historic day but a tear-jerking, proud day for me,” said MSU basketball coach Tom Izzo. Ishbia also made a donation to the Spartan Life Fund, which helps MSU alumni connect with companies looking for employees.

For example, Michigan State made a second-straight trip to Ann Arbor last season, so the meeting in 2021 will now be in East Lansing. The Spartans will begin the season with a road Big Ten game and host Nebraska at the end of September before their final non-conference matchup with Western Kentucky.

Harbaugh is now under contract at Michigan through the 2025 season with his new deal. And when Wisconsin beat the Wolverines 49-11 in 2020, Harbaugh fell to 0-11 in games his team was not favored to win. That left Harbaugh in a bit of a lurch going into the uncertain season with just two years left on his contract.

Michigan State football’s final game canceled due to Maryland’s COVID-19 cases

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The final game of the Michigan State football season has been canceled due to COVID-19 cases within the Maryland program. This is the second time this season Maryland has had to cancel a game with Michigan State due to COVID-19. There were six positive cases among staff over that same time period, resulting in a population positivity rate of 12.4%. Though the season as a whole was difficult, Tucker beat in-state rival Michigan and upset then-undefeated Northwestern along the way.
