New photography exhibit at the DIA explores six decades of blue-collar life in metro Detroit

If you need proof that metro Detroiters are hard workers, look no further than the intimate photo exhibition exploring six decades of blue-collar life in the Detroit area heading to the Detroit Institute of Arts.During his time as a freelance photographer for various national and local labor and trade publications from 1975 through 2005, Pennsylvania native Russ Marshall, who relocated to Detroit with his family when he was just 3 years old, managed to capture metro Detroit's “changing industrial and societal landscapes” over a 50-year span.will be presented at the DIA starting Nov. 15 and will run through June 27, 2021. The exhibition will feature more than 90 black-and-white photographs of laborers, candid shots taken alongside assembly lines, as well as images documenting metro Detroit's nightlife, including its jazz and blues scene, the 1967 Love-in on Belle Isle, socialites at high-profile events, parades, and architectural landmarks.The exhibit will be organized into five themes: Everyday Detroit, Public Life, Workers, Sounds of Detroit, and Turning His Lens toward Europe. The exhibit will close with images from Marshall's European travels between 1987-1990, including images of an intact Berlin Wall.A Marshall-curated YouTube and Spotify playlist inspired by his “love of jazz, blues, and poetry” will accompany the exhibit, which will be made available across the DIA's social media channels. Stand-up comedian from Michigan has lackluster showing on ‘The Weakest Link’
The comedian appeared on “The Weakest Link” on NBC, which aired on the evening of Monday, October 19. I’m from Detroit Michigan and I’m a stand-up comedian,” he proudly announced himself as each of the eight contestants did before the start of the contest. The way the contestants build up their money each round on this game show is by taking turns answering trivia questions. Adam was voted out in round one leaving seven left for the second round where Mateen had another up-and-down showing. Mateen answered two of his four questions incorrectly making him the weakest link for the round.mlive.com

Seaplane crashes into front yard of home
A seaplane crash-landed in Michigan and caught on fire after the crash. The pilot and a passenger were taken to the hospital but appear to have minor injuries, and no one on the ground was injured. INDEPENDENCE TWP, Mich. - Multiple emergency crews are on scene of a seaplane crash in the yard of a home in Independence Township near Detroit Michigan. According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the sea plane crashed in a neighborhood on Greenview Dr. near Clarkston Rd. Sheriff Mike Bouchard said that the pilot and the passenger were taken to the hospital but appear to have minor injuries, and no one on the ground was injured.

It's part karaoke and part piano bar and our Kila Peeples was one of the first to experience Sid Gold's Request Room after hours. Sid Gold's Request Room opened mid-July and it's almost hidden down the alley of the Siren Hotel. The first Sid Gold's opened in New York City in 2015. Now Detroit Rock City is the new home for Sid Golds, and the set up is pretty cool. Sid Gold's is located at 1515 Broadway, Detroit Michigan in the Siren Hotel.
