Current U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin, a Democrat, is one of the most well-known candidates running for senator for Michigan in 2024, but voters appeared to favor lesser-known Republican candidates over her, according to a new WDIV/Detroit News poll.

โLabels matterโ -- Michigan lawmakers push for stronger federal terrorism laws
LANSING, Mich. โ Michigan is once again taking the lead on domestic terrorism across the country. The Homeland Security subcommittee on terrorism -- led by former CIA analyst and Department of Defense official Michigan Rep. Elissa Slotkin -- argued the U.S. should shift its focus from foreign terrorism to domestic. โWhile external threats remain, the single greatest threat to our country right now is the threat of domestic terrorism and the tensions and polarization between us,โ Slotkin said. AdSlotkin cited a new Homeland Security threat assessment that detailed that 2020 was a perfect storm for radical domestic groups. โOur government must send its own message back by labeling extremist violence as domestic terrorism.
Police request 60-day extension of Guard at US Capitol

There were no signs of disturbance Thursday, but the Capitol Police's request for extended Guard assistance appeared mired in confusion within various congressional oversight authorities, according to letters obtained by The AP. The more than 5,000 Guard members currently in Washington, D.C., are all slated to go home March 12, ending the mission. AdCapitol Police officials have also told congressional leaders the razor-wire-topped fencing around the Capitol should remain in place for several more months.

Michigan congresswoman warns growing threat of domestic terrorism needs more focus
She discussed the terror threats this weekend at the Michigan Capitol where law enforcement officials were on high alert over a scheduled protest. โIf domestic terrorism is allowed to flourish that will be a physical threat to our citizens so Iโm trying to grapple with that and shift feet,โ she said. Michigan is clearly no stranger to domestic terrorists and extremist groups. Long a hot bed for anti-government groups the state has some of the most extensive domestic terror laws on the books. After the inauguration she said finding where these extremist groups are online, and how they train and coordinate will be the first steps in curbing this latest rise in violence.

WASHINGTON โ Michiganโs congressional delegation either evacuated or was told to shelter in place in their offices Wednesday when a group of supporters for President Donald Trump stormed into the US Capitol. Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) was on the House floor when rioters overran the Capitol police. Kildee and his colleagues were evacuated, and he blames the president for inciting the riot. READ: Pro-Trump mob storms US Capitol in bid to overturn electionCongresswoman Lisa McClain (MI-10) was also in the House along with Kildee, and she was also evacuated. McClain said she would still consider an objection to some stateโs electoral votes but found the presidentโs response to the riot to be not enough.

Michiganders on shortlist for President-Elect Joe Biden cabinet jobs
DETROIT โ After Michigan played such a key role in his election many are expecting President-Elect Joe Biden to tap Michiganders to be part of the new administration. Several names of Michigan Democrats have already been floated just days before Biden is set to name more picks. The United Auto Workers and Communications Workers unions have thrown support behind the sophomore representative earlier this month. Biden has responded to calls for more progressive cabinet members by saying they already have โsignificant representation.โFor weeks Gov. Dane County was the second and last county to finish its recount, reporting a 45-vote gain for Trump.

'We can disagree without being disagreeableโ -- Rep. Elissa Slotkin responds to death threats
DETROIT โ Michigan Rep. Elissa Slotkin said she received a violent threat and sheโs sounding the alarm about an increasingly volatile election. Slotkin said sheโs seen both Republicans and Democrats targeted this election. Despite that, Slotkin said threats have been escalating during this election cycle. But she added she wants Michiganders to push back against rising threats of violence as we get closer to the election. We will not resort to violence and threats," Slotkin said.

DETROIT โ Candidate and incumbent in the race for Michiganโs 8th Congressional District, Democrat Elissa Slotkin, issued a statement Sunday in response to a violent phone call she recently received. Upon investigation, they determined that the individual was unlikely to pose an actual threat, which was a relief. Iโm grateful for the efforts of the U.S. Capitol Police and law enforcement agencies here in the 8th District for their swift work,โ said Slotkin. According to Slotkin, this is not the first time violent threats have been directed at her or members of the candidateโs team. Slotkin is facing off against Republican Paul Junge in the race for Michiganโs 8th Congressional District.

Army: No requests made for use of troops around election
Army leaders said Tuesday that they have not received any requests to use active-duty or National Guard troops for possible civil unrest surrounding the presidential election next month, but are ready to do so if called on. Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy said no government agencies have asked for military troops. Thousands of National Guard troops, however, were used in Washington and in states across the nation to help law enforcement. The Army leaders on Tuesday also addressed other issues surrounding possible unrest. He and other Army leaders sat socially distant during the event and wore masks whenever they were not speaking.

The gun drawn altercation between Jillian and Eric Wuestenberg; and Takelia Hill and her daughters went viral, leading to felony charges. They saw this,โ said Chris Quinn, the Hill family attorney. He served his country very well,โ said Terry Johnson, the Wuestenberg family attorney. Quinn believes Jillian Wuestenberg should have deescalated the argument with the 15-year-old girl and Johnson believes charges should be filed against Hill.
Rep. Elissa Slotkin's bill to lower prescription drug costs passes House
WASHINGTON - Rep. Elissa Slotkin's Real-Time Benefits Act, designed to lower the cost of prescription drugs, passed the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday. The act would help lower out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs by giving patients and doctors real-time updates on the price of prescription drugs before they leave the doctor's office, Slotkin said. By increasing price transparency, the bill also encourages competition to help bring drug costs down across the board, Slotkin said. This is the all-American competition we need when it comes to our prescription drugs. Democrats and Republicans have both said the right things about the costs of prescription drugs.

Michigan Dem confronted over support of impeachment inquiry
CNN(CNN) - A freshman Democratic congresswoman who recently changed her stance to support impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump was challenged to explain her choice by angry constituents at a town hall in Michigan. Before the former CIA officer could finish her sentence, a vocal group in the crowd called out "Not true!" The break from Washington was an opportunity for lawmakers to gauge early voter reaction on impeachment, especially in swing districts. The moderate freshman Democrat, reluctant to embrace her party's leaning toward impeachment proceedings, changed her stance to support an inquiry after teaming with six others to pen an op-ed in The Washington Post. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the chamber's formal impeachment inquiry the day after the op-ed was published.

More than 140 House Democrats have now called for impeachment hearings to begin amid fallout from the reported call between Trump and the Ukraine, where the president allegedly threatened to withhold financial aid in exchange for an investigation into the Biden family. Many Democrats had previously called for impeachment hearings following the Mueller report. We do not arrive at this conclusion lightly, and we call on our colleagues in Congress to consider the use of all congressional authorities available to us, including the power of 'inherent contempt' and impeachment hearings, to address these new allegations, find the truth and protect our national security." Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan, a former Republican who has since become an independent, has also called for impeachment proceedings, bringing the total number of representatives to 146.
