Rescheduled Mackinac Policy Conference officially cancelled due to coronavirus
DETROIT Michigans biggest political event of the year, the Mackinac Policy Conference, is officially cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic. The Detroit Regional Chamber announced Tuesday it will not convene groups of 50 or more people for the rest of 2020. Earlier this year, the Chamber rescheduled to annual conference for August, but it has not been fully cancelled. It draws the biggest political and business leaders in the state. Just like everybody else, we will find new ways to execute our traditional role, the Chamber said in an email.
Michigan company announces daily, nightly trips to Mackinac Island on pirate ship
MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. โ A Michigan ferry boat company announced it will offer daily and evening rides to Mackinac Island on what appears to be an actual pirate ship. Star Line Mackinac Island Hydro-Jet Ferry, out of Mackinaw City, announced the Mackinac Pirate Adventure Tour trips will begin June 19. The companyโs pirate ship, Good Fortune, will take passengers to Mackinac Island from Mackinaw City five times per day during peak season. Mackinac Island ferry crew rescues girl adrift on inner tube
Star Line Ferry crew rescues girl in water off the Straits of MackinacThe crew of a Mackinac Island ferry is being credited for rescuing a young girl whose inner tube was blown away from a beach in northern Michigan. The Star Line Mackinac Island Ferry says the girl drifted Monday about a quarter-mile (0.4 kilometers) from Mackinaw City before the crew reached her. Mike North, a captain for Star Line, tells the Petoskey News-Review that the ferry Joliet was docked in Mackinaw City to load passengers when they learned the girl was adrift. He, another captain and other crew members went out and rescued the girl. North said the girl was OK, just a little scared, and a little cold. Photos posted on social media show crew members helping a girl in a bathing suit up a ladder and onto the ferry.
