5 reasons why you might want to consider skipping a restaurant on Fatherโs Day
While restaurant reservation books are usually filled for Motherโs Day, there traditionally isnโt as much ink required for those same books on Fatherโs Day, according to one website. Fatherโs Day does see an uptick for restaurant activity, according to Womply, which said the holiday brings in 22% more revenue for restaurants. In fact, only 29% of fathers surveyed said they wanted to be taken out to eat on Fatherโs Day, according to Zagat. While theyโre happy to spoil mothers on their special day and spend money at a restaurant, many fathers said theyโd prefer to keep some money in the bank, Fatherโs Day or no Fatherโs Day. Cooking up some burgers or hot dogs is a joy for many fathers, and Fatherโs Day provides a great excuse to do exactly that.
How to Survive a Rip Current
Ali Joy lost her husband, Charles, on Father's Day weekend last year when he ran into the water to save their twin daughters caught in a rip current. Now, Joy is spreading the word about the dangers of rip currents and how to stay safe if you get caught in one. A rip current is a powerful, narrow, fast-moving channel of water that moves from the beach and extends out into the ocean. She's on a campaign called Float Don't Fight, urging people to stay calm and float in the water until the current dissipates. If you fight against the rip, it could tire you out and leave you fighting for your life.
Why did it take so long for Fathers Day to be created?
So, what on earth took so long for Fathers Day to be a recognized event in the United States? The federal government certainly was opposed to the official creation of Fathers Day for the longest time, despite numerous initial attempts to have a Fathers Day established. For decades, Congress rejected attempts to make Fathers Day an official holiday, but slowly, over that time, that sentiment changed as the role of fathers evolved. According to the National Retail Federation, roughly $15 billion was spent on Fathers Day in 2018. No doubt, Fathers Day has come a long way from its surprising decades of resistance.
