A Sterling Heights man told police, “Man, I’m drunk,” after initially denying he had consumed alcohol when they found him asleep behind the wheel of a running pickup truck in the Taco Bell drive-thru, officials said.
Alcohol likely involved in motorcycle crash that killed Clinton Township man, police say
CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 39-year-old Clinton Township man named Gary King died in a motorcycle crash on Sunday that alcohol was likely involved in, police say. King lost control of his 2020 Harley Davidson and crashed. Debris from the incident led to the Eastpointe man’s 2004 Harley Davidson crashing. The Eastpointe man sustained an arm injured arm during the crash. When a Chesterfield Township police sergeant started CPR on the victim at the scene he was not breathing.

Detroit fire captain arrested after crashing department vehicle under influence of alcohol, sources say
DETROIT – A Detroit fire chief’s SUV was found dangling above the Lodge Freeway at Milwaukee and Baltimore early Monday morning. The SUV was the Detroit Fire Department’s Chief 5. Sources said the captain was driving under the influence. Repeated calls were made on the radio, but the captain could not be reached, sources said. Eventually, the captain was found in the department’s SUV, hanging over the Lodge Freeway.
Ridesharing services linked to increase in binge drinking, study says
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Ridesharing services are believed to decrease drunk driving crashes and deaths but they also are associated with an increase in binge drinking, according to a new study. Then they compared that data with information about alcohol consumption and population density from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Systems Annual Survey. Binge drinking is defined as having at least four drinks if you’re female and at least five drinks if you’re male. Researchers found that binge drinking increased by 4 percent in high-density markets after Uber became available. “Clearly there are health benefits in the reduction of drunk driving, but we are also getting an increase in binge drinking,” McCullough said.

2 Port Huron stores sell alcohol to underage police decoys during sting involving 30 businesses
PORT HURON, Mich. – A party store and a gas station in Port Huron were caught selling alcohol to underage police decoys during a sting involving 30 businesses, officials said. Port Huron officers conducted the sting Monday, checking 30 businesses for compliance focused on the underage sale of alcohol, according to authorities. Police said underage decoys were sent into retail stores licensed by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission to sell alcohol. Officials found 28 businesses were in compliance by refusing to sell alcohol to the underage decoys. Port Huron police said all licensed businesses should check IDs to prevent minors from buying alcohol.
Troy man pulls out shotgun during argument with neighbor over loud party, police say
TROY, Mich. A drunken Troy man pulled out and racked a shotgun after he was told to go back inside and mind his own business during an argument with a 20-year-old about a loud party, police said. Troy officers were called around 9:40 p.m. Friday to the area of 6800 Dublin Fair Road for reports of a loud party. While officers investigated the situation, they heard a loud argument between a 20-year-old Bloomfield Hills man at the party and Christopher Hoggarth, according to authorities. The 20-year-old man was yelling at Hoggarth to go back in his house and to mind his own business, authorities said. When officers ordered him to drop the gun, he ignored them and slowly retreated into his house, according to authorities.

After some experimenting on friends, she figured out a recipe that translated her in-person classes online. Of Rice & Men pop-up restaurant opens for dine-in services in Ann Arbor
ANN ARBOR, Mich. Originally offered as a carryout concept by Blue LLama Jazz Club, Of Rice & Men is getting its own space in downtown Ann Arbor. On July 24, the new pop-up restaurant will open the doors to its South Main Street location for dine-in services. Inspired by Asian flavors and cooking techniques, the Of Rice & Men menu offers a variety of dishes influenced by different countries including China, Thailand, Japan and Indonesia. Lead by Executive Chef Josh Wetshtein, who has worked under Wolfgang Puck, the pop-up restaurant also offers a different dining experience. Of Rice & Men is at 312 S. Main Street, right next to Blue LLama Jazz Club.
Michigan fines Livonia liquor distributor $3 million over holiday alcohol shortage
LIVONIA, Mich. Michigan has issued a record fine against the Livonia liquor supplier responsible for the shortage that left restaurants scrambling to find alcohol during the holidays. Last fall, the company decided to move over to a state-of-the-art facility in Livonia, but the technology didnt take, and that caused major trouble. The Windmill Market in West Bloomfield has an 11-story shelf to house its liquor offerings, but that supply took a massive hit last fall. We were out of a lot of product, Windmill Market owner Mazen Shaba said. This was back in November.The state ultimately controls the liquor distribution, and officials werent happy with RNDC because of hit-or-miss deliveries.

Michigan Gov. Whitmer closes indoor bar services in most of state after COVID-19 spike
Gretchen Whitmer is shutting down indoor bar services throughout most of the state amid a spike in coronavirus (COVID-19) cases. Whitmers announcement comes as the number of confirmed cases linked to an outbreak at Harpers Restaurant and Brew Pub in East Lansing continue to rise. On Wednesday, health officials confirmed 138 positive COVID-19 cases have been linked to the bar, including 119 people who were customers there between June 12 and June 20. As bars have reopened for indoor service across the country, some have been linked to a growing number of large outbreaks. Health experts said bars are often crowded and poorly ventilated, which makes the spread of COVID-19 much more likely.
