Central Michigan University scored the trifecta in the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft, with three Chippewas drafted Sunday and Monday. Jakob Marsee and Mario Camilletti followed Monday, giving CMU three MLB draft picks, the most since 2018. The Houston Astros finished off the second round Sunday by picking Taylor, who was 29-8 in three seasons at CMU. Marsee hit .310 with 12 homers and 101 RBIs in three seasons at CMU, including a .345 average with seven homers in 2022. Former Muskegon Big Red standouts Kalil Pimpleton and Jacorey Sullivan are bringing back the Elite Skillz football camp. PLEASANT, MI - Central Michigan University will temporarily shutter its entire North Community in fall 2022, closing four residence halls in response to declining enrollment, according to a letter to student residents sent 10 a.m. Thursday, March 17 by Executive Director of Student Affairs Kathleen Gardner. Enrollment estimates suggest CMU will have more housing available than student residents, according to the letter. Students who have signed up to live in the four North Community residence halls will be moved to other residence communities, according to the letter. CMU’s losses have been the most pronounced, however: Since 2016, the university has lost more than 36 percent of its enrollment. The Mid-American Conference (MAC) will return with a 6-game football season, meaning all 10 major conferences will play this fall. The MAC was the first of the NCAA division one conferences to postpone their football season due to the coronavirus pandemic. “There are simply too many unknowns for us to put our student athletes in situations that are not clearly understood,” said MAC Commissioner John Steinbrecher at the time. CMU to continue in person instruction after more than 300 virus cases linked to school
DETROIT In person classes are expected to continue at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant despite more than 300 coronavirus cases recently being linked to the college. Administrators at the college say in person classes will continue until it is no longer possible. In response, students have started a Not Fired Up For Fall campaign to push for classes to move online. The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan has risen to 106,215 as of Monday morning, including 6,534 deaths, state officials report. The latest update on cases and deaths was given Saturday.

The administration is pushing to keep students on campus until it is no longer feasible, but tensions with students are increasing. However, the Central Michigan District Health Department reports it’s identified 260 cases related to CMU’s student population. A group of students participating in a #NotFiredUpForFall campaign put up signs in popular spots on campus Monday calling on the university to suspend in-person classes. CMU President Bob Davies addressed these requests in a letter on Aug. 28.

Athletic Director Michael Alford said the indoor and outdoor men’s track teams are affected. “Hundreds of students have participated in this longstanding, successful program at Central Michigan, and we know this will impact them, and supporters of this program, greatly.”The decision was made as part of budget planning around the pandemic, Alford said. Scholarships for current men’s track and field students, including those awarded to new students starting in the fall, will be honored for the rest of their CMU careers, university officials said. “My heart goes out to these student-athletes," Alford said.

Basketball games for Central Michigan University and Western Michigan University have been postponed due to their opponent’s coronavirus suspicion. Two students from Ohio’s Miami University recently came back from China and have been quarantined. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention are expected to test the two to see if they have the virus.

(CNN) - With his NFL career apparently over, receiver Antonio Brown has enrolled in online classes at Central Michigan University to finish his college degree. Central Michigan confirmed that Brown is currently enrolled in online degree completion coursework at the university. Brown does not attend classes on a CMU campus, CMU said. Brown attended Central Michigan for three years before foregoing his senior year to enter the NFL. The Patriots signed Brown, but shortly after his move to New England, Brown was accused in a federal lawsuit of sexual assault and rape.

Central Michigan University increases tuition
DETROIT – Central Michigan University announced Thursday what it calls a "modest" tuition hike. The university will charge $7 more per credit hour. The 1.96 percent increase to tuition brings the current $358 credit hour to $365. Central Michigan said it usually adjusts tuition in July but decided to adjust and announce it in April to give students and prospective students time to plan. According to CMU, the earlier date also allows the university more time to put together financial aid packages.
