For Mother’s Day, many moms just want some extra time to themselves. So why not take over the cooking for this weekend? If you are new to the kitchen, or just want to keep things simple, we spoke to Carissa Galloway, a Registered Dietician, and Nutritionist, to get her ideas for some easy and nutritious meals and snacks.
Tasty Tuesday recipe: Tuscan chicken
Chef Jelani Bransford shows us his tuscan chicken recipe and how he puts it all together. Tasty Tuesday recipe: French toast bake
Butter baking dish and dust with cinnamon2. Whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, and pumpkin spice seasoning in large bowl3. Tear buns into small pieces in baking dish and pour the egg mixture on top4. Put flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and half stick of butter in bowl2. Sprinkle streusel on top of French toast bake and bake for 40 minutes3.
Tasty Tuesday recipe: Mini cinnamon apple pies
-- After all cinnamon rolls are pressed flat - spoon apple pile filing on top of each flattened cinnamon roll and repeat as necessary until you use the whole can of filling. -- Once the mini apple cinnamon apple pies look done enough for your liking, take out of oven and let cool for a few minutes. Heating Icing:-- Place icing cup that you set aside earlier on to a microwave safe dish and heat in the microwave for 7-10 seconds, until icing is smooth. Finishing:-- Once the pies are cooled, drizzle the smooth icing over each pie as desired. -- Sprinkle desired amount of cinnamon sugar over each mini cinnamon apple pie*If you are making the pies for dessert you can place a scoop of vanilla ice cream over each pie instead of the icing
Tasty Tuesday recipe: Green split pea soup
This Green Split Pea Soup recipe is best done after you've saved the ham bone of a spiral ham, or any bone-in ham. Start by boiling the ham bone in half a pot (or more) of water for about 60-90 minutes. Strain fat and meat from stock and return stock to pot. Cut up carrots and celeryAdd rinsed split peas, sauteed veggies, chopped carrots & celery, and a couple of bay leaves to stock. Add the ham meat strained earlier.

SUGAR COOKIE CRUSTCHEESECAKE SPREADFruit toppings (use whatever you like):Preheat oven to 350 F.Line a pizza pan with a precut circle of parchment paper and set aside. In a large bowl cream together sugar, butter and cream cheese just until combined. To make the cheesecake spread, add heavy whipping cream, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, and vanilla into a bowl. In a large bowl mix the cream cheese and 1/4 cup powdered sugar. I usually stick it in the freezer to speed up this time)Decorate with desired fruit.

DETROIT This weeks Tasty Tuesday Home Edition takes us to the kitchen of Paul Gross! If its too loose, then add a little flour to stiffen it up; if its too firm, then add a bit of water. Generously coat a cotton towel (not terry cloth) with flour, wheat bran or corn meal. Put dough seam side down on towel and dust with more flour, wheat bran or cornmeal. When it is ready, dough will not readily spring back when poked with a finger.
