MHSAA revises format, finals site for 2021 Michigan high school wrestling tournaments
The Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) announced Tuesday, March 2, that it has revised its 2021 Wrestling Tournaments. The MHSAA also has selected Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo as this yearโs host site for the Teams Finals on March 30 and Individual Finals to be wrestled April 2-3. AdTeam Wrestling: Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Finals will be wrestled Tuesday, March 30 at Wings Event Center, with all rounds over one day instead of the traditional two. Both arenas within Wings Event Center will be used each day โ one for each division โ with all rounds including championship matches wrestled in that specific area. Divisions 3 and 1 will compete in the Arena, and Divisions 2 and 4 will compete in the Valley.

PORTAGE, Mich. โ Workers at the Pfizer manufacturing facility in Portage filled boxes of the first authorized COVID-19 vaccine through the night into Sunday morning. Getting the vaccine delivered across the country is an enormous task. Right now boxes are being packed and loaded with vaccine with emphasis on quality control,โ said Gen. Gus Perna, Chief Operation Officer of Operation Warp Speed. Perna said Saturday that shipping companies UPS and FedEx will deliver Pfizerโs vaccine to nearly 150 state locations. โIt is so important that all vaccine that is available is utilized as a shot in the arm and nothing is wasted.

Justice Department backs Michigan private schools in virus challenge
KALAMAZOO, Mich. โ The U.S. Justice Department said Friday itโs on the side of Michigan faith-based schools that are challenging the stateโs ban on in-person classes in high schools. The department's Civil Rights Division filed an argument in favor of three Catholic high schools and the Michigan Association of Non-Public Schools. โThe state has failed to make any provision for consideration of the religious need of plaintiffs for in-person religious education which they sincerely believe cannot be done remotely,โ the Justice Department said. A three-week ban on in-person classes at high schools and colleges was extended this week through Dec. 20. Indoor restaurant dining is also prohibited, along with high school sports, group fitness classes and trips to theaters and casinos.

Mid-American Conference football to return with 6-game season
The Mid-American Conference (MAC) will return with a 6-game football season, meaning all 10 major conferences will play this fall. The MAC was the first of the NCAA division one conferences to postpone their football season due to the coronavirus pandemic. โThere are simply too many unknowns for us to put our student athletes in situations that are not clearly understood,โ said MAC Commissioner John Steinbrecher at the time.
