BAY CITY, MI - Once the dust settles from St. Patrick’s Day, it will be back to business in Bay City. On Monday, March 20, the Bay City Commission will be considering restricting parking while adding a turn lane on a portion of Kosciuszko Avenue to make the roadway safer. The commission will be considering a traffic control order that, if approved, would remove parking on Kosciuszko between Grant Street and Herman Street in order to add a center left turn lane at the Farragut Avenue intersection. According to the agenda item, removing parking and adding a center left turn lane would improve safety at the intersection by reducing the risk of crashes. The turn lane has the potential to calm and reduce traffic speeds, according to the agenda item.

The event consists of an 8K run, 5K run and a 5K walk. Brady added that all participants in the 8K run as well as the 5K run and walk will receive special spinner medals. Those who compete in the Irish Double, which combines the 8K and the 5K run, will receive a second medal as well to add to their collections. The downtown social district of bars and restaurants will begin on St. Patrick’s Day - Friday, March 17, according to the city’s Downtown Development Authority. The formation of Jackson’s social district was originally approved in April 2021, but a lack of bar and restaurant interest prevented it from launching then. After Friday, the social district will operate from noon to midnight Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to midnight Saturday and Sunday. Timing of state approvals and the fact St. Patrick’s Day is on a Friday in 2023 made it the ideal time to launch the social district, Mays said.

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner, and communities already getting in on the festivities. In Lake Orion, Canterbury Village turns green for Leprechaun Days. With COVID restrictions now allowing a 50% capacity, or up to 100 people, at restaurants and bars, the Detroit Health Department were out monitoring crowds. While it was crowded in some areas, many were outside and felt things were safe. But some people were being extra cautious with the celebrations having the potential to be a super-spreader event.
Wyandotte welcomes St. Patrick’s Day visitors to open container ‘social district’
WYANDOTTE, Mich. – March 17 marks St. Patrick Day, and although the bars aren’t packed as previous years, Wyandotte is allowing several bars in the city’s social district to follow the new open container rules so customers can drink while still being socially distant. Those partaking in St. Patrick’s Day festivities can agree. “We’re anticipating a really exciting spring and summer here in Wyandotte and the social district is just one of the many that makes Wyandotte the place to come visit,” Gruber said. Find your luck with an Irish memento
It’s St. Patrick’s Day and while many may be celebrating by raising a pint or digging into an Irish meal there are other ways to find your luck today. Morning Briefing March 17, 2021: Michigan most expensive state to own car, flu disappears amid COVID
The Great Lakes State -- the undisputed birthplace of automobile manufacturing -- is the most expensive state for car ownership, according to data from Move.org. In Michigan, state health department labs have reported only five positive flu tests this entire flu season. The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan has risen to 612,628 as of Tuesday, including 15,810 deaths, state officials report. On Monday, the state reported 610,580 total cases and 15,783 deaths. AdAccording to Johns Hopkins University, more than 29.5 million cases have been reported in the U.S., with more than 536,000 deaths reported from the virus.

Before the meeting, the president attended a morning Mass at the aptly named St. Patrick’s Church near his family home in Wilmington, Delaware, then returned to the White House to partake in the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, which were toned down due to the coronavirus pandemic. In keeping with recent tradition, the water in fountains outside the White House ran green for the day. Biden and Martin also emphasized their commitment to addressing global challenges and combating the coronavirus, among other issues, the White House said.

Find a pot of gold at Ann Arbor Senior Center March 17
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Older community members anticipating St. Patrick’s Day festivities should plan on stopping at the Ann Arbor Senior Center on Wednesday, March 17. Between noon and 1 p.m., seniors who stop by the “Luck of the Irish” drive-thru event will receive coffee, doughnuts and St. Patrick’s Day-themed goodie bags. Festive attire is encouraged, according to a social media post by the Senior Center. The event is being held in collaboration with Heartland Health Care of Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor Senior Center is at 1320 Baldwin Ave.
