DETROIT โ Winter weather already has prompted some school closings in Metro Detroit. There is plenty of snow expected overnight Monday into Tuesday morning, so you can expect even more closings to be announced. From the Local 4Casters:A bigger storm heading this way from Texas will redevelop snow Monday evening, which will become heavy at times Monday night before winding down Tuesday morning. This should easily be a 6-to-8-inch snowfall, so total snow from what falls both Sunday night/Monday morning and Monday night/Tuesday morning could approach 10 inches in some areas. DETROIT โ A winter weather advisory is in effect for Detroit and all of southeast Michigan from midnight Sunday until noon on Tuesday. Two waves of snow will arrive, with lighter snow on Sunday and heavier snow late on Monday. Two rounds of snow on the wayThere are two rounds of snow arriving in Detroit and southeast Michigan beginning late Sunday night through Tuesday morning. Much of the snow will have slowed by Monday morning, with 1 to 3 inches possible by mid-morning. By the end of Tuesday morning, an additional 3 to 7 inches of snow accumulation are possible.
Bitter cold causes more flooding concerns along St. Clair River
EAST CHINA, Mich. โ A State of Emergency was declared in Saint Clair County due to the flooding along its titular river -- and ongoing cold weather is expected to bring more ice jams, causing more flooding concerns for residents. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for southeastern Saint Clair County until 10 a.m. Tuesday. State of Emergency declared in St. Clair County due to flood damage
ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Mich. โ A State of Emergency was declared in Saint Clair County due to the flooding along its titular river. Ice jams have caused the Saint Clair River to flood significantly. The State of Emergency was declared due to widespread damages to property caused by the flooding. Citizens who are impacted by flooding to their properties are encouraged to utilize the online self-reporting survey to catalogue and report damage. Coast Guard ice breakers deployed to St. Clair River to relieve flooding
EAST CHINA TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ Three Coast Guard ice breakers from the United States and Canada have been working on the St. Clair River trying to break up ice dams. Homes along Pointe Drive in East China Township are affected. Those homes do not have basements but crawl spaces and if the water doesnโt recede soon, will be in peopleโs living rooms. READ: Ice jams cause significant flooding along St. Clair RiverSt. Clair County Emergency Director Justin Westmiller said the cause is a trifecta -- strong north winds, no ice bridge has formed in Lake Huron and all that ice has dumped into the river. โWe got on the phone and by 3 p.m., we had federal assets from the U.S. and Canada speeding to the St. Clair River to break up the ice.โA fourth Coast Guard ice breaker will arrive Thursday morning.

Pieces of ice collect and dam off the river, causing it to back up. What was uncommon was the typical help used to prevent the St. Clair River from spilling over wasnโt available, causing damage all along the river. READ: Homes impacted by flooding along St. Clair RiverPumps were turned on Wednesday and by noon, the water receded at least a foot. Two ice breaking ships -- U.S. Coast Guardโs Bristol Bay and Canadian cutter The Griffon -- have been conducting operations to ease the flooding.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for southeastern St. Clair County until 10 a.m. Wednesday. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, two icebreaking ships -- the U.S. Coast Guard Bristol Bay and the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Griffon -- have been conducting icebreaking operations to ease the flooding. โGriffon was underway until 8:30 p.m. flushing ice that is contributing to the flooding, and both cutters will resume icebreaking operations at 6 a.m. Wednesday. Bristol Bay, normally homeported in Detroit, is staged in Algonac, Mich. for the overnight hours,โ read a statement from the U.S. Coast Guard.
River Crab in St. Clair listed as probable coronavirus (COVID-19) exposure site
ST. CLAIR, Mich. Officials with the St. Clair County Health Department announced Thursday that the River Crab Blue Water Inn has been listed as a possible coronavirus (COVID-19) exposure site after an employee tested positive. July 16, 2020: Michigan coronavirus (COVID-19) cases up to 71,842; Death toll now at 6,101According to authorities, anyone who has visited the restaurant on July 5-8 may have been exposed and are encouraged to self-monitor for symptoms over the next 14 days. Employees who worked with the confirmed case have been quarantined. The health department said the management of the River Crab is working closely with health officials and the restaurant has followed all required precautions and protocols. Health officials said the situation is an important reminder that even with the recommended safeguards in place, any social gathering can pose a risk for transmission of the virus.
Body of man missing for days in St. Clair River identified
Riley Gleason went missing on July 12 after he jumped off a boat into the St. Clair River behind the St. Clair Inn. ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Mich. - A body found Thursday in the St. Clair River has been identified, authorities said. Gleason went missing on July 12 after he jumped off a boat into the St. Clair River behind the St. Clair Inn. The St. Clair County Sheriffs Office Dive Team was called to the scene and began to search for Gleason. He located Gleasons body in the St. Clair River off Russell Island in Clay Township about 7:45 a.m.A boat from the Algonac Fire Department responded and brought Gleasons body to the shore.
