Parking, capacity spark concern for Washington Township as big crowds expected for Trump rally
With thousands of people expected in Washington Township for a rally with former President Donald Trump, Township Supervisor Sam Previti says the capacity and parking concerns voiced by the fire marshal have been worked out. Taxpayers will not be on the hook for costs related to the rally.
How Detroitโs Macomb County suburbs voted in 2020 presidential election
Weโre taking a closer look at how Metro Detroit voted for president in the Nov. 3 General Election. Detroitโs election turnout was 49.56% -- 250,138 total votes out of 504,714 registered voters. In Oakland County, Biden won with 56.36% of the vote -- 433,982 total votes for the Democrat. Macomb County was the lone member of the tri-county region to vote red -- 53.28% of the vote was for Trump in Macomb County (264,535 votes). It was the tightest of the three major Metro Detroit counties.

President Trump makes final appeal to Metro Detroit
DETROIT โ President Donald Trump returned to Metro Detroit Sunday -- his second stop in the area in three days. He made a final appeal to voters in Washington Township at a packed campaign rally. Trump is hoping to win back suburban voters in the crucial Macomb County -- a county he won in 2016 by double-digits. During his rally, Trump attacked Gov. Some said they came as far away as Arizona for a final chance to see the president.

In 2016 Trump consistently campaigned in Michigan and managed to flip the state, now his campaign is keeping up the pace and intensity. Romeo Rock moves to new location at Romeo District Library
Washington Township workers moved the rock Thursday morning to its new home at the Romeo District Library on Van Dyke. The billboard of goodwill for greetings, birthday wishes and celebrations had been a welcoming beacon into Washington Township. In June, โBlack Lives Matterโ was painted on the rock, which started a volley of racial slurs and a back-and-forth struggle to control the message on the rock. While plans were being made to move the rock by late 2021, the contentious back-and-forth made the land owners uncomfortable. The library accepted Romeo Rock with open arms.

Washington Township water restrictions put in place
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. Due to an increase in demand, Washington Township public water customers will immediately be required to restrict outside water use to an even-odd schedule. Public water customers with an address ending in an odd number are only to water on odd calendar days. Meanwhile, public water customers with an address ending in an even number are only to water on even calendar days. It is essential that Washington Township public water customers water comply with these restrictions to limit future water rates increases from the Great Lakes Water Authority. These restrictions have been adopted in order to receive the best rates possible for public water customers.
1 dead, 2 stabbed during alleged โdrug deal gone wrongโ in Port Huron Township, police say
PORT HURON CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ Police are investigating what is believed to be a drug deal gone bad in Port Huron Charter Township early Wednesday morning. One person is dead and two others suffered stab wounds during the incident, officials said. The Port Huron Charter Township man provided information regarding the assault to officers and was then transported to the hospital. Port Huron police identified and stopped a vehicle in connection with the incident at about 4:30 a.m., officials said. A 21-year-old Washington Township man was also in the car and suffered from lacerations.

The tiny Romeo community of about 3,600 people was rocked earlier this week when vandals wrote racial slurs on the rock, which is a landmark. The rock had been painted with the Black Lives Matter slogan before it was vandalized. Demonstrators Friday said their collective voice will drown out the few who vandalized their beloved rock.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ The future of the โRomeo Rockโ is up in the air as the owners fear the back-and-forth between people spray painting โBlack Lives Matterโ and others replacing it with racist messages could turn violent. For years, the rock has been on a private piece of property in Washington Township, just to the south of Romeo. But during the weekend, โBlack Lives Matterโ was pained on the rock, replaced with โall lives matter,โ changed back to โBlack Lives Matterโ and then replaced with a racial slur, officials said. Now the rock has become a rallying place as regular citizens became civil rights warriors and sentries who guard the rock and the current message that Romeo will not tolerate racism. But the situation is complicated as the property is being torn up to make way for a new strip mall.

Masked attacker who stabbed man at Washington Township ATM charged
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith has charged Zachariah Thorton in connection with attacking a Shelby Township man at a Chase Bank drive through ATM in Washington Township on Nov. 16. Thorton has been charged with assault with intent to rob while armed, a felony with a sentence of up to life in prison, for attacking the Shelby Township resident. Original Story: Person stabbed by masked attacker while trying to use Washington Township ATMPolice and prosecutors allege that the suspect, wearing all black, including a face-covering and gloves, approached the victim from behind as he was using the ATM. One person was hospitalized after a fire broke out at a Dearborn home Saturday night on Oxford Street between Decatur and Pardee. Temperatures will be in the teens and low 20s Sunday morning. Highs are expected to only reach the middle 30s today.

Video shows Macomb County bodybuilder brutally attacking girlfriend
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Surveillance video from inside a Washington Township home shows a bodybuilder brutally attacking his girlfriend Sunday. More than 30 minutes of footage allegedly shows Paul Bashi, 35, punching, kicking, stabbing and burning his 22-year-old girlfriend. Sources said the footage shows Bashi looking at his girlfriend's phone before he starts assaulting her. She was allegedly hit 50 times, kicked 100 times, stabbed more than 24 times with different knives and burned with hot wax. Prosecutors said the bodybuilder left his girlfriend lying on the porch of their Washington Township home to die.
26 Mile Road construction completed, road open to traffic
MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. โ Construction on westbound 26 Mile Road has been completed and the road is open to traffic, according to the Macomb County Department of Roads. Westbound 26 Mile Road east of Stony Creek Park Bridge, Washington Township, Shelby Township had been closed for construction.
