Woodhaven business raises money for family after mother dies shielding sons from car crash
WOODHAVEN, Mich. โ Friends and family members gathered Sunday to honor Hillarie Galazka, a 29-year-old mother who lost her life protecting her sons. Her family said she was killed shielding her twin boys during a crash on I-96, near Davison. She went sideways where the twins went forward,โ Kelley said. โThese little boys witnessed their mother die in front of them. She shielded her little boyโs so they could survive,โ said owner Jade Pham.
Former AMC Woodhaven 10 will reopen as Emagine Theatre this spring
Emagine Entertainment announced on Thursday that it will reopen the former AMC Theatre in Woodhaven as a 10-screen Emagine Theatre this spring. Emagine Woodhaven will open in late spring, according to a release. Emagine franchisee, Jon Goldstein originally opened Emagine Woodhaven in 2009, and sold it to AMC in 2017. โWe are really happy to have Emagine Woodhaven back in our portfolio of theatres. We have missed serving Woodhaven and the surrounding Downriver communities, so when this property became available, we jumped on the opportunity.โ said Anthony LaVerde, CEO of Emagine Entertainment.
Dog rescued from frozen Detroit River recovering slowly
WOODHAVEN, Mich. โ A dog who had been stranded on the frozen Detroit River for four days was rescued Saturday. A Metro Detroit veterinarian shed light Sunday on how the dog is doing and the unlikely thing that may have saved his life. Fonzi was stranded for four days on ice in Detroit River until a Good Samaritan -- who wished to remain anonymous -- reached him with an airboat and brought him to shore. He had blocks of ice frozen in his fur, was suffering frostbite, malnutrition and severe pancreatitis.

Thieves work quickly overnight to strike 3 Target stores in Metro Detroit
ALLEN PARK, Mich. โ Workers were busy installing new doors Monday morning at the Target store in Allen Park. It was one of three Target stores in Metro Detroit -- one in Woodhaven and another in Dearborn -- where thieves smashed through the front door overnight and stole thousands of dollars worth of electronics. The thieves then went to the Allen Park and Dearborn stores. Donโt they have 24/7 surveillance?โ said Sarah McCune in Allen Park. Police suspect itโs the same group of thieves.
3 Target stores in Wayne County broken into overnight
DEARBORN, Mich. โ Three Target stores were hit by thieves early Monday morning in Metro Detroit. The break-ins happened in Allen Park, Woodhaven and Dearborn. Authorities are looking for a silver Dodge Durango linked to the crimes. No arrests have been made.

Spotlight: Woodhaven Coach Bryan Sullivan
On Friday, Woodhaven's varsity ice hockey team is facing off against Wyandotte Roosevelt. Depending on how it goes, they might be picking up their 20th win of the season and coach Bryan Sullivan is feeling confident-- and rightfully so. The Woodhaven Warriors have nine seniors on their team, some of who are in consideration for collegiate play. "There's an opportunity there to make it, but it's going to require a gallant effort," Sullivan said. These hurdles will come down the line, and in the meantime, Sullivan is focusing on Wyandotte Roosevelt and getting to 20 victories.
