Newsweek names Ann Arbor hospitals among best in the world
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – On Wednesday, both University of Michigan Hospital and St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor were named on Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2021 list. University of Michigan Hospital ranked 23 out of the top 200 hospitals in the world and was the only Michigan hospital to make the global shortlist. Both Ann Arbor hospital systems performed “above average,” according to the 2021 list.
Ann Arbor District Library named five star library for 13th consecutive year
ANN ARBOR – The Ann Arbor District Library earned five stars in Library Journal’s annual national ratings of public libraries for the 13th year in a row. Library Journal has been releasing its America Star Libraries ratings since 2008. Total scores and star ratings for 2020 were determined based on the following factors:Circulation of physical materialsCirculation of electronic materialsLibrary visitsLibrary program attendancePublic internet usersWiFi sessionsE-retrievals (usage of online content like databases)To develop its ratings, Library Journal sources FY18 data on per capita output measures from the Institute of Museum and Library Services Public Library Survey. Ranking: Ann Arbor No. 1 college city in America for 2021

From extensive on-campus activities -- not during a pandemic -- to powerhouse sports teams and a robust downtown, it comes as no surprise that Ann Arbor topped the rankings. In total, 415 college towns and cities of varying sizes were ranked on the list. In order to determine the rankings, Wallethub considered three key dimensions: wallet friendliness, academic and economic opportunities and social environment. After results were in, Wallethub used the weighted average of each town and city across all metrics to determine its overall score.

ANN ARBOR – U.S. News & World Report released its 2020-21 Best Places to Live and Best Places to Retire rankings, and it comes as no surprise that Ann Arbor ranks high on both. This year, Ann Arbor ranked the No. 7 best place to retire in the country and No. 12 best place to live. Michigan Medicine ranked No. 11 hospital in nation by U.S. News & World Report
ANN ARBOR On Tuesday, U.S. News and World Report released its 2020-21 rankings for the best hospitals in the nation and Michigan Medicine is one of the top 20. At Michigan Medicine, our commitment is to our patients, first and foremost, Marschall Runge, M.D., Ph.D., executive vice president for medical affairs at the University of Michigan, said in a statement. Mott Childrens Hospital was ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the top-ranked childrens hospital in Michigan. For its rankings, U.S. News & World Report evaluated 4,554 community hospitals but only 134 -- just under 3 percent -- were ranked as having at least one specialty. Our national ranking is truly an honor, Jeffrey Desmond, M.D., chief medical officer of Michigan Medicine, said in a statement.
