Dearborn native is baking up success
She’s a popular social media baker with more than 300k followers between Tiktok and Instagram, and she’s from right here in Metro Detroit! Dearborn native Connie Kazan says baking is in her blood. The stay-at-home-mother of 4 posts videos of her baking on social media, and has received over 2 million video likes. One of her fans is “Live in the D’s,” Tati Amare, who says she enjoys watching her fun-filled videos online. Kazan is taking her baking skills to another level, and has recently appeared on the network baking competition show, “The Great Chocolate Showdown.”

It doesn’t dent or crack, but the buttercream is very delicate.”That buttercream also tastes better and, along with a butter cookie base, is what makes Cookie Colab cookies so good. Cookie Colab designs originally started out on holiday cookies when Lugo would bake with her daughter.
Run out of powdered sugar? Don’t stop baking, make your own!
You’re baking away in the kitchen and you run out of powdered sugar. You’ve got cookies in the oven and you can’t run to the store! Kila Peeples discovered a way to get more of your key ingredient using two items that you can find in your pantry. Put a half cup of regular sugar in a mixer, along with a tablespoon of cornstarch and mix for about five minutes. Kila tried this out and then made two batches of frosting, one with store-bought powdered sugar, and another with the sugar she made.

I can still picture that Thom McCann shoebox bursting open, cookies rolling asunder in all directions. Good times. Good times.

Make your cookies even sweeter for National Homemade Cookies Day
Today we’re celebrating National Homemade Cookies Day. Lauren Roumayah owner of the Detroit Cookie Company in Ferndale gave us a few pointers. Roumayah suggests using a spoon to scoop flour into the measuring cup to stop it from clumping. If you make too much cookie dough, Roumayah says you should scoop the dough into small balls and freeze them for later. If you don’t want to make your own cookies you can visit Detroit Cookie Co. and try their new fall cookie flavors.
