Showers and storms are possible again Saturday. They will be more widely scattered and less frequent than yesterday or earlier this week. We’ll experience more sunshine and warmer than average weather is here to stay for the holiday weekend.

After some morning rain and gray skies, the afternoon evening are filled with the sun’s rays and blue skies. Tonight will be fair with a bit of a chill in the air.

Keep the umbrellas handy to start the day today as a few showers are around. This rain isn’t causing much of an issue, but more of a nuisance. This rain should be wrapping up at around 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. this morning.

These storms will also have torrential downpours, so some localized flooding is possible.

Any lingering clouds behind the Saturday night cold front first thing this morning will move out, and the day should become mostly sunny and a little breezy.

Aside from a few early morning sprinkles and scattered light showers, we’ve had a splendid first day of the three-day holiday weekend!

We are starting our Saturday dry, and today will be the day of the three-day holiday weekend in which we’ll have the most clouds.

The threat of isolated thunderstorms popping up in a few spots will continue into the evening hours, although many more of us will not see rain than will, with the threat ending by late evening.

It’s been quite a summer. As if the numerous high-end flooding events weren’t enough, the stifling heat and humidity has made life rough especially for those who work outside and those without air conditioning.

We’ll have partial cloud cover and some fog developing later at night.

We are waking up to another muggy morning but, as expected, it’s another dry start to the day with no showers or thunderstorms in the area.

After a great start to the weekend on Saturday, we’re looking forward to an awesome finish Sunday.

This is not the forecast a lot of us want, but it’s the forecast we need.

I’ve always been thankful that I was born with my mother’s skin…she has a darker skin tone that tans, and never had skin cancer in her life.  My late father, on the other hand, had very fair skin.  That, compounded with extensive sun exposure when he was stationed in San Juan, Puerto Rico during World War II, caused him all sorts of problems later in life.  He had several skin cancers removed from his head, face and ears, and many, many other pre-cancerous lesions proactively removed.  It seemed like every few months he was coming home from the dermatologist with bandages all over his face and scalp.

Here is the Metro Detroit afternoon and evening weather forecast update for April 13, 2021.

Tuesday was the warmest day of 2021 so far. But Wednesday will be even warmer and near record territory.

DETROIT – Another 70-degree finish awaits before a more seasonably spring finish to the forecast, including plenty of wind and rain. Three Rounds of RainOur weather pattern gets very active this week as we’ll deal with three rounds of rain in seven days. Model calculations show we may end up with more than an inch of rain out of that system alone. And we’ll be back below normal by Monday of next week, with a high in the low 40s. By then our normal high will be 52 with only three days remaining in March.

Today will include sunshine after some morning clouds, and we go from cold to chilly or cool. The game is in Indianapolis, Indiana, where it will be partly sunny with afternoon temperatures in the middle 50s. We move our clocks forward one hour before going to bed, tonight, for the start of Daylight Saving Time. Afternoon temperatures will be in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees. Morning temperatures will be in the 20s.

The COVID-19 relief measure Senate Democrats planned to unveil will also retain the $400 weekly emergency jobless benefits that were included in a House-approved version of the legislation, the official said. But under Wednesday’s agreement, those checks would end for individuals making $80,000 and couples earning $160,000, the official said. The Senate bill was expected to largely mirror the House-approved package, with the most glaring divergence the Senate’s dropping of language boosting the federal minimum wage to $15 hourly. Progressives, though, were still smarting over the virtual certainty that the Senate bill will lack the minimum wage boost, up from $7.25 hourly locked in since 2009. Opposition by moderates including Manchin and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., has left Democrats without the votes needed to salvage it.

DETROIT – Temperatures tumble tonight to our coldest point in more than two years. Temperatures will tumble to their lowest point since February 2019. But a lot of areas (if not most) outside the Metro Zone are on their way to negative numbers for overnight lows. Here’s some hope: temperatures will be on a slow, steady rise from that point into early next week. Past that point, we can actually look for some above normal temperatures.

Hostile social media posts on Twitter by Court of Arbitration for Sport judge Franco Frattini persuaded the federal court he should not have presided over banning the Chinese swimmer. “In his tweets, the arbitrator (Frattini) castigates a Chinese practice of dog slaughter and denounces the consumption of this meat at a local festival in China,” the Swiss court said in a statement. After CAS published its verdict last February, Sun's lawyers appealed to the Swiss supreme court. The 10-hour hearing in Montreux, Switzerland, was a rare CAS case held in open court, at the three-time Olympic champion’s request, and streamed live online.

The cold front crosses the area late at night, which will push out the rain and usher in colder temperatures and breezy conditions for the start of the new work week. Temperatures nearly steady in the low to mid 30s (0 to 1 degrees Celsius). Highs Wednesday and Thursday in the low 40s (5 degrees Celsius). Temperatures falling from the upper 30s (3 degrees Celsius) into the 20s (-3 degrees Celsius).

Clouds will increase this afternoon, however, and a scattered shower is possible after 4 p.m. Temperatures will rise into the mid 30s (2 degrees Celsius) this afternoon, then continue rising to near 40 degrees (4 to 5 degrees Celsius) by late evening after a warm front passes. At stake in a second CAS hearing would be Yang’s chance to compete at the pandemic-delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics now set for July 2021. The Swiss court ruling appears to have swung on an objection by Sun’s lawyers to the chairman of the three-judge panel, former Italian foreign minister Franco Frattini. It is even possible to overturn a CAS verdict in the federal court and still lose the re-trial. When Canas went to federal court, Swiss judges ruled his right to be heard had been breached and sent back the case. Immediately, Sun said he planned to appeal to the Swiss Federal Tribunal, which is Switzerland’s highest court.

This year’s only total solar eclipse will cross South American countries Chile and Argentina on Monday, Dec. 14. DETROIT – It appears that the Northern Lights (aurora borealis) didn’t get this far south Wednesday night to be visible in southern Michigan. See spectacular actual video of the solar flare that gave us this chance to see the aurora borealis above. Translation: There wasn’t enough “oomph” to push that ring of Northern Lights down to southern Michigan. What are the Northern Lights? They are known as “aurora borealis’ in the north and “aurora australis” in the south.

DETROIT – I’ve been telling you for over a week now to start planning for an unusually beautiful November weekend, and it’s now here. Expect mostly sunny skies both today and Sunday, with highs of 70 degrees (21 degrees Celsius) both days. Saturday night’s low will be in the mid 40s to near 50 degrees (8 to 10 degrees Celsius). Mostly clear Sunday night, with lows in the low 50s (10 to 11 degrees Celsius). Temps will probably drop into the mid 50s (13 degrees Celsius) and hold steady until after the front comes through.

Even our early morning temperatures are milder in the upper 30s and low 40s as you head out the door on this Wednesday morning around Metro Detroit. Highs should hit the middle, or even upper 60s, with winds SW 7-17 mph gusting to 27 mph at times. That pesky breeze 5-15 mph gusting 20-25 mph will keep moving mild air in our direction. Friday through Monday is our best chance of seeing some potential record highs in Metro Detroit. After a frosty start Saturday morning, clouds will increase and we’ll scratch and claw our way barely to 50 degrees (10 degrees Celsius) for a high. Hubble astronomers were using the supernova as part of a program to precisely measure the expansion rate of the universe — a key value in understanding the physical underpinnings of the cosmos. The supernova serves as a milepost marker to measure galaxy distances, a fundamental value needed for measuring the expansion of space. In the time-lapse sequence, spanning nearly a year, the supernova first appears as a blazing star located on the galaxy’s outer edge. This allows astronomers to measure the expansion rate of the universe. Over the past 30 years Hubble has helped dramatically improve the precision of the universe’s expansion rate.

DETROIT – We’ve saved the best for last with a blue sky finish to our shortened work and school week. Temperatures are headed up for the weekend, but it won’t be completely dry. Weekend StormsThose clouds lead into scattered thunderstorms Saturday evening and overnight. If you put off a lot of outdoor activities until the weekend, keep an eye on the radar on the Local 4Casters app. There will be an afternoon wave that could scare up a few light scattered showers, but the coverage won’t be close to what’s coming through in the early morning.

If you are out and about today, you may be startled, perhaps frightened at first, to see a large, circular yellow object in the sky. Highs in the upper 60s (20 to 21 degrees Celsius) will so much better than it did during the week with all of that cloud cover. Partly cloudy Friday night (we’ll probably start the night mostly moony, then see some passing clouds overnight). Partly cloudy skies Saturday morning will be replaced by incoming cloud cover by afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms are likely Saturday night ahead of the approaching cold front and a very dynamic accompanying upper level system.
