Eastern Michigan University closes campus on Tuesday due to winter weather
YPSILANTI, Mich. โ Students at Eastern Michigan University will not have classes on Tuesday. On Monday night, the Ypsilanti university notified students that the campus would be closed due to weather conditions. The EMU Student Center COVID-19 Testing Center will be open on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The COVID-19 testing at the EMU Convocation Center, hosted by Washtenaw County Health Department, will be closed and appointments will be rescheduled. Students will be updated through their university email accounts and through the EMU website.

There is plenty of snow expected overnight Monday into Tuesday morning, so you can expect even more closings to be announced. From the Local 4Casters:A bigger storm heading this way from Texas will redevelop snow Monday evening, which will become heavy at times Monday night before winding down Tuesday morning. This should easily be a 6-to-8-inch snowfall, so total snow from what falls both Sunday night/Monday morning and Monday night/Tuesday morning could approach 10 inches in some areas. Metro Detroit parents scramble in wake of schools closing for coronavirus
Gretchen Whitmer to close all schools in the state took parents and some districts by surprise. On Friday afternoon, the Detroit Public Schools Community District announced it will keep schools open strictly to feed students. The announcement comes as parents scramble to come up with a plan to make sure their children are supervised for the next three weeks. Dozens of Metro Detroit schools already close for training, cleaning: Check the list
DETROIT โ Coronavirus concerns have resulted in school closings for some Metro Detroit schools and districts. Some schools are closing on Friday to train staff on potentially holding a virtual class, while some are closing for more intensive cleaning in classrooms. Gretchen Whitmer announced all K-12 schools in the state will be closed for three weeks beginning Monday, March 13. Note: The school districts control the school closings list. DETROIT โ The first snowstorm of the season blanketed Metro Detroit, causing schools to cancel evening events and cities to declare snow emergencies. Mondayโs commute was messy all day, leading to numerous crashes on Metro Detroit roads. Many cities have declared snow emergencies as crews work to clear the roads. Detroit Public Schools to close early Monday due to heat advisory
DETROIT โ The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Metro Detroit until Monday at 6 p.m.Based on anticipated high temperatures, the Detroit Public Schools Community District will implement a three-hour early release for all schools Monday. Cass Tech High School closed Tuesday due to busted cooling system, odor
DETROIT โ Cass Tech High School is closed Tuesday due to an odor in the building caused by a broken cooling system pipe. School officials said they also must ensure a "comfortable temperature" with the warmer weather expected Tuesday. "Although maintenance crews have been working to repair the โpipe, we cannot ensure a comfortable temperature with warmer weather expected and need additional time to remove the school's odor. Therefore, school will be cancelled today. We will update families, students and staff on the status of school later today," reads a statement from Chrystal Wilson, a spokeswoman for Detroit Public Schools Community District.
Port Huron teenager charged after school threat reported by Patriots' Julian Edelman
PORT HURON, Mich. โ A 14-year-old boy was charged Thursday with a felony after a school threat was reported by New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman, police said. ORIGINAL STORY: Port Huron teenager arrested after school threat reported by Patriots' Julian EdelmanThe threat was posted as a comment on an Instagram post made by Edelman. After Edelman reported the incident, police found the boy, who admitted to making the threat, officials said. Police said the threat was directed toward Central Middle School in Port Huron. The 14-year-old is charged with false report of a threat of terrorism, which is a four-year felony.
