DETROIT – Two malnourished horses found abandoned in a Detroit alley are now in the care of the Michigan Humane Society. The Detroit Police Department’s mounted unit initially rescued the horses near Michigan Avenue and Tillman Street on Tuesday. The horses have been transported to the Michigan Humane Center for Farm Animal Care at Abraham Ranch. However, Detroit police say the horses were abandoned by the owner and were found tied up in the field. Inquiries regarding adoption or animal surrender can be directed to Michigan Humane at (866) MHUMANE.

DETROIT – It has been a strange and difficult year for many humans -- but it has been a great year for dogs. “We have an incredible demand at all four of our centers,” Matt Pepper with the Michigan Humane Society said. “We are doing between 150 and 200 adoptions in a week at the facility.”The Michigan Humane Society is actually reaching out to other animal rescue leagues to import pets to be adopted out. Because of a noticeable reduction in unwanted dog pregnancies, there was already a decline in dogs coming into the shelters. The Michigan Humane Society currently has a zero euthanasia rate for adoptable pets.

Michigan Humane takes in evacuated animals impacted by Hurricane Laura
Michigan Humane staff and volunteers helped 34 dogs that were evacuated from shelters in Louisiana Friday afternoon. These dogs come from animal shelters across Louisiana and have come to Michigan to help create space in these shelters as they work to support animals displaced by Hurricane Laura. We’ve seen people from across the country come together with the goal of helping those affected,” said Michigan Humane president and CEO Matt Pepper. Ramsey answered the ad and began an undercover text exchange with the poster, exposing sickening and exhausting evidence, she said. Michigan Humane Society investigating suspected cockfighting in southwest Detroit
DETROIT We are here today investigating what we believe is suspected cockfighting, said Elise Ramsey of the Michigan Humane Society. The MHS and Detroit police served a search warrant at a home on Thaddius in southwest Detroit after they got a tip. The home is suspected of cockfighting breeding and being a training center. Police say about 80 birds were recovered with some already dead. It is an extremely brutal gruesome torturing sport, said Ramsey.

Michigan attorney general seeks to close puppy mill
The case in Hillsdale County involved complaints referred to state officials from Monroe County Animal Control and Michigan Humane Society. HILLSDALE Michigans Attorney General Dana Nessel filed suit and for an injunction last week in Hillsdale Circuit Court against puppy mill operator Paul Steury. The suit asks through this lawsuit the Attorney General asks the Court to shut down this puppy mill. The suit also seeks attorney fees and costs for the suit and investigations.
