Suspected drunken driver with previous OWI charge accused of causing fatal Macomb County crash
MACOMB COUNTY, MI – A Michigan man out on bond has been charged in a fatal Macomb County crash. Benson was out on bond in Wayne County for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, third offense, at the time of the crash. During that altercation Benson was dragged and run over by the van, breaking both of his legs and suffering multiple other injuries. He is expected to live, according to Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido. Benson is charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death, driving while license suspended causing death, attempted carjacking, possession of a control substance and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

MACOMB COUNTY, MI – An inmate at a Michigan prison is accused of killing his cellmate before stabbing another prisoner multiple times while at breakfast. Michael Ketchum, a prisoner at the Macomb Correctional Facility on 26 Mile Road, was arraigned Monday for first-degree murder, assault with intent to murder and prisoner in possession of a weapon. According to Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido, the alleged crimes were committed on Oct. 18 when Ketchum went to breakfast and stabbed an inmate eight times in the head and neck. Officers then went to his cell where they discovered his cellmate hogtied, strangled, and stabbed to death underneath his bed. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Jan. 4 and a preliminary exam will be held on Jan. 11.

Man, 19, now charged with murder of Roseville woman found in truck after minor crash
ROSEVILLE, MI – A 19-year-old man has been charged with felony murder after a woman’s dead body was found in the back of a truck he was driving in October. The body of 62-year-old Gabriele Seitz was discovered after a fender-bender crash involving Freeman’s vehicle, which occurred near Common Road and Hayes Road in Roseville at 12:15 p.m. on Oct. 27. Freeman fled the scene after the truck he was driving hit the back end of another vehicle. Since the incident, the Roseville Police Department and Michigan State Police have been investigating the woman’s death, leading to additional charges. Freeman was arraigned on felony murder, a crime that could lead to life in prison, on Tuesday.

The video was taken inside the veterinarian’s Macomb County home by someone with a cell phone. Macomb County Anima Control officers ended up removing three dogs form the residence during a subsequent investigation. A press release from Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido’s office on Monday said officers determined the German shepherd was not injured. Officers took custody of the cell phone allegedly used to make the video, but so far have not been able to retrieve the phone’s contents.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday it has authorized an adult warrant against the teen for a charge of assault with intent to murder. The charges stem from a June 1 incident at the schools where the suspect allegedly stabbed another student multiple times before fleeing the school and being chased down by police. The victim in the case reportedly suffered non-life threatening injuries in the stabbing and is expected to recover. The victim and the teen accused of stabbing him were acquainted with one another according to police.

Michigan's road funding battle stalls
The roads are crumbling and once again it doesn't appear Lansing will come together with a real solution on how to fix the mess. Whitmer offered up her solution, a 45-cent per gallon gas tax increase. Now with the budget clock ticking, both sides scrap roads in order to get the budget done. GOP State Sen. Peter Lucido says he was never in for the gas tax. He says the gas tax never got traction.
