detroit.cbslocal.comMichigan attorney general intervenes in DTE rate increase, lowers request by nearly $111 million
A rate increase request by DTE Gas Co. was slashed by 57% after Attorney General Dana Nessel argued the request was excessive and unreasonable. DTE Gas, a subsidiary of DTE Energy, serves approximately 1.2 million customers in Southeastern Michigan. The Detroit-based utility company sought a rate increase of $195 million, which translated to more than an 11% increase for residential customers, according to the Attorney General’s office. This week the MPSC approved an $84,173,000 rate increase — nearly $111 million less than the original request. DTE Gas contracted and stored natural gas earlier this year before the global increase in natural gas prices.
mlive.comMichigan’s top utilities blame days-long power outages on ‘significant’ storms
DTE and Consumers Energy representatives told MLive that they understand people’s frustration during the relatively long power outage that affected so many. “Clearly, the DTE customer’s voice does not carry any weight with DTE executives,” Pritchett said, asking for help from the media to get attention. It prioritizes restoration to certain places like hospitals, before moving onto groups of customers, and then single customers, DTE said. About 370,000 of its customers lost power cumulatively in the storms that began Aug. 11, Consumers Energy Spokesman Josh Paciorek said. For the power outages stemming from last week’s storms, Consumers Energy offered tokens of appreciation for customers’ patience to restore the power.

mlive.comParents say Girl Scouts were barred from selling cookies near Walled Lake marijuana shop, officials say otherwise
WALLED LAKE, Mich. – Girl Scout troops in Metro Detroit were reportedly prohibited from selling cookies outside of a marijuana dispensary in Walled Lake, but local organization leaders say that the troops were given false information. Last weekend, Oakland County Girl Scouts were welcomed outside of the Greenhouse of Walled Lake cannabis store by owner Jerry Millen, who authorized the girls to sell cookies outside of his dispensary. Following their successful sales, several more Girl Scout troops asked Millen if they could also sell cookies outside of Greenhouse, which Millen approved. Ad“Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM) does not have a policy prohibiting troops from selling cookies at or near any legally operating business. The national Girl Scouts organization, Girl Scouts of the USA, does discourage troops from selling at locations where the girls cannot legally enter, however, there is no policy prohibiting selling at such businesses,” the statement reads.
