The plan Tuesday (April 12) night is to tear down the iconic theater and replace it with a five-story mixed-use development, which went before the cityโs planning commission.

Video shows high-speed Royal Oak police chase, crash that killed 18-year-old driver
ROYAL OAK, Mich. โ An 18-year-old driver was killed overnight when he fled Royal Oak police at high speeds and crashed violently into a pole, according to officials. They terminated the pursuit at the border of Royal Oak, near 11 Mile and John R roads. Royal Oak officers saw the car, which had no license plate, heading west on 11 Mile Road near Stephenson Highway, according to authorities. Officers called Royal Oak firefighters, who used the jaws of life to free the man from the wreckage. Deputies from the Oakland County Sheriffโs Office and Royal Oak officials are investigating the crash.
2-year construction project on Gratiot Avenue begins Monday in Roseville
ROSEVILLE, Mich. โ A 2-year project on Gratiot Avenue in Macomb County will begin Monday. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, more than three miles of Gratiot Avenue in Roseville will be rebuilt. Construction will focus on the stretch between 11 Mile and Common roads in 2021 and is expected to work between Common and 14 Mile roads in 2022. On the northbound side, the left lane will be closed from Frazho to Common roads and on the southbound side, the left lane will be closed from Common to 11 Mile roads. What appeared to be a fiery crash shut down westbound lanes on I-696 in Warren on Sunday evening. As of 6 p.m. Sunday, emergency crews were responding to what appeared to be a car crash and a vehicle on fire. Apartment undergoing renovations from recent fire in Southfield catches fire
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. โ No one was injured during a Thursday morning apartment fire in Southfield. Southfield Fire Department chief Johnny Menifee said the building was undergoing renovations and there was a previous fire in the same unit. The fire happened at the Carnegie Park Apartment complex, located near the intersection of 11 Mile and Inkster roads. Multiple fire departments helped battle the three-alarm fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Stalking suspect dies after crashing into pole while fleeing Berkley police, officials say
BERKLEY, Mich. A stalking suspect was killed Monday when he crashed into another vehicle and a pole while trying to escape Berkley police officers, according to authorities. Officers said they were called around 10 p.m. Monday to a home on Ellwood Avenue north of Catalpa Drive for a stalking incident. The impact caused the Cruze to crash into a light pole, according to authorities. Since the crash happened in Southfield, officers from that department are investigating the fatal crash. Someone approached Jennifer Wentzโs car with a gun and shot her from behind, police said. Warren police Commissioner Bill Dwyer said the left, rear window of Wentzโs car was open.
