Pickup truck swerves into median, kills woman in hit-and-run crash
DETROIT – A mother of two was killed in a fatal hit-and-run crash on Monday night in Detroit, WDIV Local 4 reports. The 32-year-old woman, of Detroit, was standing on a median in the area of Livernois Avenue and Vernor Highway waiting to cross Livernois when a Ford F-150 swerved, hit her and then continued driving, the report said. The woman, whose name has not been released, was walking to a store, the report said. Detroit police seek suspect in assault with motor vehicle
Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a suspect wanted in connection to an assault with a motor on March 7, 2021. DETROIT – Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating a person wanted in connection to a March 7 assault on Detroit’s west side. Police said when the victim refused to give the suspect money, they became angered and entered a black Ford Focus and struck the white BMW. Police said the victim exited he vehicle to check for damage and the suspect struck him with the Focus and fled the scene. Police say distracted driver hit semi truck in southwest Detroit
DETROIT – Detroit police said distracted driving was the cause for a vehicle to slam into a semi Thursday. The crash happened on John Kronk Street near Livernois Avenue. 2 critically injured in attempted robbery in Detroit, victim lured by dating app
DETROIT – Police are investigating a double-shooting Saturday night on Detroit’s west side. It happened at about 9:30 p.m., near the intersection of Woodside Street and Northfield Street, just east of Livernois Avenue. According to authorities, a 57-year-old man met a woman on an online dating website and arranged to meet at her apartment. Police said when the man arrived, the woman was waiting with her 18-year-old boyfriend, who was armed and attempted to rob the man. The 57-year-old man was a CPL holder.
Detroit fast-food workers join protests across US aimed at raising federal minimum wage
DETROIT – The battle over the minimum wage heated up Friday. A Fight for $15 rally took place at a McDonald’s near the intersection of Livernois Avenue and West McNichols Road on Detroit’s west side. They want the minimum wage to increase to $15 an hour. Demonstrators want the incoming Joe Biden administration to raise the federal minimum wage within Biden’s first 100 days of taking office. The federal minimum wage hasn’t been raised since July 2009.
Man struck by stray bullet at Detroit apartment complex
DETROIT – A 27-year-old man was shot Sunday at an apartment complex near the intersection of Ewald Circle and Dexter Avenue, just east of Livernois Avenue. According to authorities, the victim was standing in the hallway of an apartment complex at about 12:45 a.m. when he heard multiple gunshots. When he realized he had been shot, he called for a ride and was transported to a hospital, where he is expected to survive. 2 men found shot inside vehicle along Lodge Freeway in Detroit
DETROIT – Two men found shot this week in a vehicle along the Lodge Freeway in Detroit were actually shot in the parking lot of a hotel in Southfield. Police said officers pulled over the SUV on the Lodge Freeway near Livernois Avenue and found two men shot inside the vehicle. Investigators determined the men were shot in the parking lot of the Westin Hotel in Southfield. Police believe this may have been the result of a drug deal that turned violent. Both men are expected to survive their wounds.
Detroit police cruiser hits 16-year-old boy on bicycle, police say
DETROIT – A police scout car struck a 16-year-old boy on a bicycle in Detroit Saturday afternoon. According to authorities, police were responding to a assist officers on a domestic violence call when they struck the boy on Livernois Avenue, near Otis Street. The boy was taken to a hospital and is expected to be okay. Police said the car had its lights and sirens on at the time and its officers were not injured.
Stretch of Lodge Freeway renamed in honor of Aretha Franklin
DETROIT – A stretch of the Lodge Freeway has been renamed in honor of the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, two years after her death. Owner of Detroit shoe repair store continues father’s, grandfather’s legacy
DETROIT – Rhonda Morrison is an expert in the art of shoe repair. She’s been at House of Morrisons Shoe Repair, located on Livernois Avenue, near Seven Mile Road, for 37 years. She’s been around the trade longer than that if you count all the time she spent watching her father, a shoe-shiner turned cobbler who started House of Morrisons Shoe Repair in 1954. Morrison’s father made sure she understood all the tricks of the trade. She said she’s looking forward to starting some training and letting some other people have a shoe shop in town.
‘Eric’s I’ve Been Framed’ -- Detroit business thrives amid coronavirus pandemic
He started selling frames from his apartment in 1994 before opening up shop 20 years ago on Livernois Avenue, near the Lodge. “I love to see the expressions on their face when they see their piece framed,” Vaughn said. The name of his shop -- Eric’s I’ve Been Framed -- came to him while pursuing a career he wasn’t excited about. “He came back in about two weeks with business cards and said, ‘You’re in business!’” Vaughn said. He has advice for the next generation of Black business owners trying to turn their dreams into a reality.
Detroit police want help identifying armed carjacking suspect
DETROIT – The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Detroit Police Department are asking the public to help identify a carjacking suspect. Police said an unidentified man approached a woman outside a BP gas station at 4125 W 8 Mile Road, near the intersection of 8 Mile Road and Livernois Avenue on July 30 at 9:15 a.m. The man pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded the keys to her car, police said. The suspect pointed a gun at the other person’s head and demanded his car keys. He was wearing a black hoodie, black pants and a black face mask.

FERNDALE, Mich. – A 17-year-old boy was taken into custody after a Thursday morning carjacking in Ferndale. According to authorities, just after 7:15 a.m., a 62-year-old man was at a gas station near the intersection of Eight Mile Road and Livernois Avenue when the suspect approached with a handgun and demanded the vehicle. Police said the suspect was arrested by Southfield police after a short pursuit. Surveillance video of the incident can be seen above.

New roads lead to new opportunities on the Avenue of Fashion
After many weeks of construction, Livernois Avenue is open for business. Now current business and restaurant owners are looking forward to reclaiming the title, Avenue of Fashion. Bartell said the completed construction project, which included expanded sidewalks, added bike lanes and resurfaced roads, has been helpful to the businesses, and visitors as well. Both Bartell and Mitchell hope the new version of the Avenue of Fashion will draw investors, potential business owners and home buyers to the area. Business owners said the construction really hurt their businesses. The area at 7 Mile Road and Livernois Avenue was a giant construction zone and businesses started asking for help. The sidewalks are much wider, there’s new lighting and business owners are more than happy the construction has finished.

In the midst of trying road construction, a handful of owners along the Avenue of Fashion cut the ribbons on their new businesses and are set to have grand opening celebrations on Small Business Saturday this November 30. The $17-million streetscaping project on Livernois Avenue between Eight Mile Road and Margareta Street that began in May has been tough on local businesses. At various points during construction, parts of the sidewalk were unusable, there was no street parking, and traffic was reduced to two lanes. Theres been several Livernois Soup grant events, a free shuttle program, and loan program for small businesses on the strip. The three businesses set to open also received a total of $110,000 from the Motor City Match.

A significant streetscaping project on Livernois Avenue intended to improve walkability along the Avenue of Fashion commercial corridor has, at least temporarily, had the opposite effect. Fewer lanes, a lack of parking, and impassable sidewalks has had an immediate and negative impact on local businesses. Good Cakes and Bakes co-owner April Anderson told Detour Detroit that in-store orders have dropped by more than a third. On Livernois, the city is removing the median, widening the sidewalks, and adding sidewalk-level bike lanes. The city has also worked out agreements with some local businesses to offer their parking lots to the general public.

According to Fox 2 Detroit, the officer then arrested the driver with the right of way. Michigan State Police are investigating the incident. His mother told Fox 2 that the officer told her son he "hit a cop" and had "no rights now." She also said the Michigan State Police had his phone and license.
