Police correctly predicted where a “bank robbery crew” that targeted three branches in Monroe County would commit their 15th bank robbery in the fifth different state, and after a 50-mile, high-speed car chase, two members of the group were taken into custody, officials said.
Monroe County deputy, member of fire department crash while responding to same emergency
MONROE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Monroe County deputy and a member of the Monroe Township Fire Department were both hospitalized Friday morning after their vehicles collided while responding to the same emergency. Authorities say that at about 7:48 a.m. Friday, the Monroe County sheriff deputy was traveling westbound on Dunbar Road while responding to an emergency call. Officials say the truck was driven by a member of the Monroe Township Fire Department, who was actually responding to the same emergency as the deputy. The deputy was conscious and alert following the crash, according to authorities. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has any information is asked to contact police at 734-242-3500.
Monroe Township man calls 911 after being held down by 2 men while a woman stabbed him multiple times, officials say
MONROE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Officials are investigating after a 47-year-old man was held down by two men while a woman stabbed him multiple times. The incident happened Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Union Street in Monroe Township. Police said the 47-year-old victim was walking on Union Street when he saw a suspicious vehicle parked in a private parking lot. He told police he approached the vehicle and confronted two men and one woman who were inside the vehicle. Police said the two men held the victim down while the woman stabbed him.

Mother killed, 2-year-old son injured in crash on I-75 in Monroe Township
MONROE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – On Monday at 9:41 a.m. Michigan State Police troopers from the Monroe Post were dispatched to a two-vehicle injury crash on I-75 near Laplaisance Road. A Toyota minivan occupied by a 25-year-old woman and her 2-year-old son were traveling north on I-75. The minivan struck the back of a commercial box truck that was slowing down due to traffic congestion caused by construction. Northbound I-75 was closed for several hours while Michigan State Police investigated the crash. Owen Hall of the Monroe Post at 734-242-3500.

The footage confirms the man was approaching an officer with a knife and it shows the encounter only lasted a few seconds. Police said they were responding to a call about a suspicious man with a knife yelling at cars. The man with the knife keeps approaching and after a few seconds, just after the officer moves out of frame, the officer fires. It is up to the prosecutor to decide if there will be charges filed against the officer or the man with the knife.

The pickup truck was driving near the intersection of Telegraph and Albain roads around 7:20 a.m. Thursday, according to authorities. 3 rescued after boat sinks in Monroe County
MONROE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Three people were rescued after their boat started to sink in Monroe County early Saturday morning. Here’s the info from the Monroe Township Fire-Rescue Department:This morning in the early morning hours Monroe Township, LaSalle Township, Monroe City Fire and Coast Guard Toledo station rescue boat was dispatched to 3 individuals taking on water possibly 1 mile off the coast of Avalon beach in Monroe Township. Shortly after being dispatch the 3 individual’s boat was half-submerged and the individuals had to enter the water. Within minutes of being dispatched Monroe Township Boat 2, LaSalle Marine 1 and Monroe City Marine 1 launched their rescue boats heading to the possible last known location of the 3 individuals in the water. Coast Guard Toledo rescue boat was able to locate the victims and extract them from the freezing water, one of the Coast Guard rescuers had to enter the water to help the victims up and onto the rescue boat.
Woman run over after climbing onto moving truck during argument in Monroe, police say
MONROE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 25-year-old woman was critically injured Tuesday when she tried to climb onto a moving pickup truck, fell off and got run over during an argument in Monroe County, police said. The incident happened at 3:02 a.m. Tuesday within the Oakridge Estates Mobile Home Park in Monroe Township, according to authorities. Three people got into a 1995 Ford F-350 pickup truck and tried to leave the scene, police said. The 25-year-old woman climbed onto the side of the truck as it began to accelerate, according to officials. She fell from the truck onto the road was was run over as the truck continued, police said.
Police: 19-year-old man struck by semi truck, killed after failing to yield at Monroe intersection
MONROE TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A 19-year-old man was struck by a semi truck and killed Monday after failing to yield at an intersection in Monroe Township, police said. Michigan State Police troopers were called at 1:35 p.m. Monday to the intersection of South Dixie Highway and Albain Road, according to authorities. He entered the intersection at Dixie Highway without yielding to oncoming traffic, officials said. He was struck by a semi truck heading south on South Dixie Highway, according to authorities. The semi truck driver, a 41-year-old man from Ohio, was taken to ProMedica Monroe with non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
