Three high schools in the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools district will shift to virtual learning for one week after a Thursday threat triggered a four-hour lockdown at the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park (P-CEP).

Police investigating bomb threat in Downtown Harbor Springs
HARBOR SPRINGS, Mich. – Harbor Springs police received a bomb threat in the area of Main and State streets in Downtown Harbor Springs. The Harbor Springs Police Department, Michigan State Police and the Emmet County Sheriff’s Department are actively investigating the threat. Harbor Springs schools were locked down until 4:15 p.m., which is when students were released. The public is asked to avoid the Downtown Harbor Springs area. Michigan congresswoman warns growing threat of domestic terrorism needs more focus
She discussed the terror threats this weekend at the Michigan Capitol where law enforcement officials were on high alert over a scheduled protest. “If domestic terrorism is allowed to flourish that will be a physical threat to our citizens so I’m trying to grapple with that and shift feet,” she said. Michigan is clearly no stranger to domestic terrorists and extremist groups. Long a hot bed for anti-government groups the state has some of the most extensive domestic terror laws on the books. After the inauguration she said finding where these extremist groups are online, and how they train and coordinate will be the first steps in curbing this latest rise in violence.

Man arrested for online domestic terror threat targeting Monroe County Sheriff’s Office
MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – A domestic terror threat posted on social media targeting the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is being investigated. On Saturday, Jan. 2 the MCSO was notified about the social media post. In the online post a man threatened to harm the law enforcement agency and blow up its building if the MCSO did not send someone to arrest him by Jan. 13. Later the man threatened to kill anyone who attempted to arrest him for any reason and noted that his post should be considered a terrorist threat. The man was identified as a 37-year-old from Gaylord with ties to the Monroe County area.

Viral warning of threats of violence isn’t real, NAACP says
DETROIT – A viral Facebook post claiming the NAACP received information that white nationalists and neo-Nazis were planning violent attacks on people of color is false, the organization claims. The social media message received traction online and caught the attention of law enforcement officials. The NAACP said the message did not come from them and that they had not received any credible threats. Dr. Wendell Anthony, President of the NAACP Detroit Chapter. He said people started calling the Detroit branch, concerned about the potential of violence from white supremacists.

Man pleads guilty to threatening Taylor woman due to her race
DETROIT – Ronald Wyatt, 22, pleaded guilty Wednesday to intentionally threatening physical harm to a Taylor woman to obstruct her free exercise of religion. The Department of Justice said Wyatt admitted he targeted the woman because her race. “Although the First Amendment protects free speech, it doesn’t give anyone the right to obstruct the free exercise of religious beliefs by threatening violence or bodily harm. Prosecuting those who violate the civil rights of Michigan citizens is some of the most important work we do. This plea today is the first step towards justice for this innocent victim.”Wyatt faces up to a year in prison.
