Suspect in hit-and-run that killed pregnant Southgate mother given $2M bond
SOUTHGATE, Mich. – Raymond John Alkewich, 31, is accused of killing a pregnant Southgate mother in a hit-and-run incident Saturday. He was arraigned Tuesday and was charged with failure to stop at scene of an accident resulting in death. Her family knows the arraignment won’t bring her back, but they’re hoping it’s a step in the right direction for the grieving family. It’s believed that over the weekend, Alkewich ran a light and struck Strother, who was crossing the street, and then kept on driving. The court is going to assess a $2 million bond,” said Judge Elisabeth Mullins.

It’s unclear what led to the accident taking place but Johnson said the driver of the vehicle didn’t even try to stop. NORTHVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 19-year-old from Westland has been charged in a fatal hit-and-run in Northville Township that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man. Gustavo Godinez Jr. is facing a felony charge that carries up to 15 years in prison. ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – Martin Dwayne Smith, a 51-year-old man from Harper Woods, was arraigned Friday afternoon in connection with a fatal hit-and-run on I-94 Monday. Zachery Morisette, a 26-year-old Macomb County Department of Roads employee, was struck and killed while replacing a manhole cover on I-94 near Nine Mile Road in Macomb County. Smith was charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault, resulting in death and failure to stop at the scene of an accident, resulting in serious impairment or death. Both are felony charges. He was given a $25,000 bond and is expected to return to court Oct. 9.

Detroit man charged in July fatal hit-and-run incident on I-75
DETROIT – Michigan State Police said a Detroit man wanted in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in July was officially charged and arraigned for the incident. Valerian Kobaidze, 32, was arraigned Thursday on charges of operating while intoxicated causing death, fail to stop at accident when in fault resulting in death and reckless driving causing death. The incident happened on July 14 on Interstate 75 southbound near Seven Mile Road. While the case being reviewed, Kobaidze left the state of Michigan and went to New York. State troopers assigned to the Second District Fugitive Team picked Kobaidze up from the New York City Sheriff’s Office Wednesday and brought back to Michigan.
