Divers search for father after 2 girls escape vehicle that plunged into lake
OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – Two girls escaped from their father’s vehicle after in plunged into Lake Macatawa, Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies said. The father, who was driving the vehicle, has not been located as of Sunday, Jan. 22, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Lt. Eric Westveer told MLive/The Grand Rapids Press. The girls were able to escape the vehicle when it went into the lake. The girls did not know where they were, but finally knocked on a door and asked for help hours after they escaped the vehicle, Westveer said. WHITEFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A motorist fleeing troopers in southwestern Michigan and someone in a second vehicle both died Thursday when the two vehicles collided, state police said. The crash occurred around 4:15 p.m. in Whiteford Township in Monroe County, just north of the Ohio state line, police said. Troopers had stopped a suspect in a domestic violence incident before the suspect fled from the scene, police said. The suspect ran a stop sign at an intersection and crashed into the second vehicle, which killed the suspect and a person in the second vehicle, police said. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the person killed in the second vehicle was the driver or a passenger.

The incident happened on Dec. 15, between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., along westbound I-196 near Market Avenue. Police said they believe the vehicle was a 2015 GMC Yukon, Chevy Suburban or Yukon or possibly a Cadillac Escalade. State police Lt. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – A vehicle sought in connection with the deadly hit-and-run of a construction worker Monday along I-94 in St. Clair Shores has been found, Michigan State Police announced Wednesday morning. Zach Morisette, 26, was killed when a vehicle struck him about 3 p.m. Monday. He was working with a Macomb County Department of Roads crew putting down a patch to fix a broken manhole cover. Woman in critical condition after being struck by 2 vehicles in Detroit, police say
DETROIT – Police are asking for help identifying and locating two vehicles involved in a hit-and-run incident that happened on Detroit’s east side. A 26-year-old woman was walking in the middle of Harper Avenue on Sept. 11 at 11:40 p.m. when she was struck by a Jeep that was traveling west, according to police. After being hit, a dark colored minivan that was traveling east struck her too. Medics transported the woman to a hospital where she is listed in critical condition. Police are looking for an unknown driver who was in the dark colored Jeep and an unknown driver who was in the dark colored minivan.
2 people shot near Schoolcraft, Burt Road in Detroit
DETROIT The Detroit Police Department is investigating a shooting Wednesday night near Schoolcraft and Burt Road that left two people in serious and critical condition. Detroit police said a preliminary investigation determined the 28-year-old male driver and 25-year-old female passenger stopped at a stoplight at about 8 p.m. on Schoolcraft and Burt Road when a white Sudan pulled beside the vehicle. An unknown suspect inside the Sudan fired shots at the two victims before taking off. The male victim was listed in critical condition and the female victim was listed in temporary serious condition. Michigan drivers face new insurance choice starting Thursday

Michigan drivers who renew or buy car insurance face a choice starting Thursday: stick with unlimited medical coverage, go with less or -- for seniors with Medicare -- opt out entirely. Such lawsuits are expected to rise since fewer people will have unlimited medical. Fox said concerns that higher bodily injury coverage would completely negate PIP savings have not been borne out. Someone with unlimited medical and the default bodily injury coverage, for example, will still save about 10%, according to state data. The state said calls to its auto insurance hotline are up tenfold from May.
Vehicle slams into Westland house; driver flees on foot
WESTLAND, Mich. – A vehicle slammed into a house Tuesday morning near Henry Ruff Road and Avondale Street in Westland. The driver, however, was covered in blood and offered to give him money so he wouldn’t call police, the homeowner said. The driver then fled the area on foot.
