Divers search for father after 2 girls escape vehicle that plunged into lake

OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – Two girls escaped from their father’s vehicle after in plunged into Lake Macatawa, Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies said. The father, who was driving the vehicle, has not been located as of Sunday, Jan. 22, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Lt. Eric Westveer told MLive/The Grand Rapids Press. The girls were able to escape the vehicle when it went into the lake. The girls did not know where they were, but finally knocked on a door and asked for help hours after they escaped the vehicle, Westveer said. GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A driver was rescued Saturday morning from a vehicle that crashed into the Grand River. Officials say the rescue team arrived at 11:02 a.m. and confirmed a person was trapped inside an air pocket in the submerged car. This was the first rescue since the Grand Rapids Fire Department dive team launched in September. The tools used to cut into the vehicle were funded by a FEMA grant, a news release said. 2 killed when suspect fleeing police crashes into another vehicle

WHITEFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A motorist fleeing troopers in southwestern Michigan and someone in a second vehicle both died Thursday when the two vehicles collided, state police said. The crash occurred around 4:15 p.m. in Whiteford Township in Monroe County, just north of the Ohio state line, police said. Troopers had stopped a suspect in a domestic violence incident before the suspect fled from the scene, police said. The suspect ran a stop sign at an intersection and crashed into the second vehicle, which killed the suspect and a person in the second vehicle, police said. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the person killed in the second vehicle was the driver or a passenger.

3-wheel motorcycle drags officers after traffic stop for driving on sidewalk

DETROIT – Two Detroit police officers were injured when they were dragged by an open-air three-wheeled vehicle that was driving on sidewalks in Greektown, officials said. The officers stopped the vehicle around 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, near the intersection of Monroe and Beaubien in Detroit’s Greektown, according to a news release from the Detroit Police Department. The vehicle dragged one officer while the other chased after it and was hit by the vehicle as it proceeded across a street. The chase ended when the vehicle hit a light pole, causing it to fall over. Both officers and the driver sustained minor injuries and are expected to be OK, officials said.

Drunk driver rescued after crashing into Grand River

JACKSON COUNTY, MI – Rescue crews pulled a Jackson man from a submerged vehicle after a crash Thursday night, police said. At about 8:28 p.m., April 28, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the area of Stonewall Road near Badgley Road in Summit Township, south of Jackson, for a reported vehicle crash. The vehicle was found rolled onto its side and partially submerged in the Grand River, police said, adding that Summit Township Fire crews arrived on scene and got the driver out of the vehicle. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash, and a charge of operating while intoxicated is being sought through the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, police said. The crash caused a small amount of oil to leak into the Grand River, police said, adding that the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy has been notified.

Stolen vehicle crashes during police pursuit, 3 occupants caught trying to flee

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Police seized a loaded handgun from one of three people inside of a stolen vehicle that crashed following a police pursuit. The pursuit began about 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25 when Kalamazoo Public Safety officers noticed a stolen vehicle in the area of Bridge Street and Riverview Avenue. The stolen vehicle then crashed into a utility pole near Scudder Court and Parsons Street. Officers said three people bailed out of the vehicle and tried to flee. One of the juveniles was released to parents, the other juvenile was taken to the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home and the adult was taken to the Kalamazoo County Jail.

State police looking for vehicle involved in I-196 hit-and-run of pedestrian

GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- Michigan state police area asking for help to identify a vehicle and drive in a recent hit-and-run involving a pedestrian on I-196. The incident happened on Dec. 15, between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., along westbound I-196 near Market Avenue. Police said they believe the vehicle was a 2015 GMC Yukon, Chevy Suburban or Yukon or possibly a Cadillac Escalade. State police Lt. Michelle Robinson said the pedestrian was outside their vehicle, putting gas into the tank, when the person was struck by the passing vehicle. The driver of the stopped vehicle left the scene after the crash. The incident happened just before 5 p.m. on I-96 near Eighth Avenue in Ottawa County’s Tallmadge Township, a sheriff’s sergeant said. The investigation showed that a 37-year-old Dearborn Heights man was pulling a travel trailer west on I-96 when he encountered the stopped vehicle. Witnesses provided police with information that could help identify the driver of the stopped vehicle, police said.

After fleeing police in stolen vehicle, man and woman found hiding in backyard camper

BATTLE CREEK, MI -- Police found a man and woman hiding in a backyard camper near Battle Creek after they ditched a stolen vehicle at the end of a 10-mile police pursuit. One dead in early morning crash in Kalamazoo County

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI — A traffic crash in Kalamazoo County has the claimed the life of a person. About 5:10 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash scene on Sprinkle Road north of Wynn Road. A single vehicle had been traveling south on Sprinkle when it drifted across the northbound lanes, went through a fence, and struck a concrete pillar. Dozens of shots fired in Monroe neighborhood targeting car, 2 homes

MONROE, Mich. – A vehicle parked on the driveway of a home in the 500 block of Conant Street in Monroe was shot at 15 times Friday around 10 p.m. while two separate homes in the area were also struck with gunfire, police say. Ice fisherman drowns in Lake Michigan in Upper Peninsula

GARDEN, Mich. – A 64-year-old man drowned in a Lake Michigan bay when his off-road vehicle hit open water, authorities said. Edward Lester of Garden was at Big Bay De Noc, off Delta County, for ice fishing Thursday. Ice in the area was 4 to 5 inches thick but "recent high winds caused the crack to open,” said Lt. Eugene “Skip” Hagy of the Department of Natural Resources. Pressure cracks are very hazardous and can occur very fast, particularly on large bodies of water,” Hagy said. Authorities were contacted when Lester’s wife said he had not returned from a routine fishing trip.

Child trapped underneath vehicle after serious Brownstown Township crash

BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – On Friday, a child involved in a serious crash that happened around 3 a.m. on I-75 and Sibley Road in Brownstown Township was injured. Police say the child was trapped underneath a vehicle after the crash. According to police, a pickup truck struck a minivan which led to the rear hatch opening. The child was laying across the rear bench seat of the minivan and ejected from the vehicle. Police say the child was hospitalized with minor injuries.

2 dead after vehicle submerges in Terry Lake in Pontiac

PONTIAC, Mich. – Police are investigating a vehicle submerged Tuesday night in Terry Lake in Pontiac. Family members at the scene said the driver may have had a medical condition that caused the vehicle to crash into the lake. “Upon arrival, the vehicle was already fully submerged. State police find vehicle wanted in fatal hit-and-run of I-94 construction worker

CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – A vehicle sought in connection with the deadly hit-and-run of a construction worker Monday along I-94 in St. Clair Shores has been found, Michigan State Police announced Wednesday morning. Zach Morisette, 26, was killed when a vehicle struck him about 3 p.m. Monday. He was working with a Macomb County Department of Roads crew putting down a patch to fix a broken manhole cover. Police had been searching for the vehicle and driver and while they have located the vehicle, the driver remains at large. Woman in critical condition after being struck by 2 vehicles in Detroit, police say

DETROIT – Police are asking for help identifying and locating two vehicles involved in a hit-and-run incident that happened on Detroit’s east side. A 26-year-old woman was walking in the middle of Harper Avenue on Sept. 11 at 11:40 p.m. when she was struck by a Jeep that was traveling west, according to police. After being hit, a dark colored minivan that was traveling east struck her too. Medics transported the woman to a hospital where she is listed in critical condition. Police are looking for an unknown driver who was in the dark colored Jeep and an unknown driver who was in the dark colored minivan.

2 people shot near Schoolcraft, Burt Road in Detroit

DETROIT The Detroit Police Department is investigating a shooting Wednesday night near Schoolcraft and Burt Road that left two people in serious and critical condition. Detroit police said a preliminary investigation determined the 28-year-old male driver and 25-year-old female passenger stopped at a stoplight at about 8 p.m. on Schoolcraft and Burt Road when a white Sudan pulled beside the vehicle. An unknown suspect inside the Sudan fired shots at the two victims before taking off. The male victim was listed in critical condition and the female victim was listed in temporary serious condition. Michigan drivers face new insurance choice starting Thursday

Michigan drivers who renew or buy car insurance face a choice starting Thursday: stick with unlimited medical coverage, go with less or -- for seniors with Medicare -- opt out entirely. Such lawsuits are expected to rise since fewer people will have unlimited medical. Fox said concerns that higher bodily injury coverage would completely negate PIP savings have not been borne out. Someone with unlimited medical and the default bodily injury coverage, for example, will still save about 10%, according to state data. The state said calls to its auto insurance hotline are up tenfold from May.

Vehicle slams into Westland house; driver flees on foot

WESTLAND, Mich. – A vehicle slammed into a house Tuesday morning near Henry Ruff Road and Avondale Street in Westland.
