She was introduced to Caribbean flavors by a friend of hers and fell in love with them, deciding to add them to her baked treats. Flavors include Lemon Poppyseed Hibiscus, Passionfruit Lemon, Calypso Coconut Lime, Butter Rum Raisin, Guava Stuffed, Limbo Lime Pie, and many more. PETA: Ann Arbor is eighth-most vegan-friendly small city in US
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Another day, another Top 10 list for Tree Town. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has named Ann Arbor as the eighth friendliest small town in the U.S. for vegans. The organization pointed to the Michigan city’s many vegan-friendly eateries, festivals and products as a deciding factor for its position on its Top 10 Vegan-Friendly Small Cities list. Among the vegan-friendly businesses mentioned by PETA are Seva, Detroit Street Filling Station, Fresh Forage, Blue Tractor BBQ & Brewery, Ann Arbor Vegan Kitchen and Simple Pleasures. To celebrate the city’s ranking, an award certificate has been sent to Ann Arbor Mayor Christopher Taylor, said the release.

You don’t have to cheat on your diet to indulge in these treats
Dearborn – The holidays are upon us and many will be indulging in some sweet treats. Michelle Oliver met up with Ali Hachem, the Owner of Cheat Treats in Dearborn, to talk about his business. After taste-testing several recipes, he started posting his creations on Instagram and opened up Cheat Treats Cafe on Schaefer Road in Dearborn. While you can get meat added to your order, the entire menu can also be made vegan, so there are plenty of options for anyone looking to give stuffed peppers a try. Hughes hopes that The Detroit Pepper Company can remind Detroiters there are options for healthy food and good restaurants right in the city.
Have you ever had bacon made from carrots?!
Tabitha went viral earlier this year with her take on how to make bacon with carrots. Kila Peeples tried out Tabithas recipe, with a couple of added tweaks, to see if the veggie bacon is as good as the real thing. She mixed liquid smoke, maple syrup, Slap Your Mama Cajun seasonings and pepper together in a bowl with freshly shaved carrot peels. She then put the bacon in the oven at 375 degrees for 5 minutes. Watch the video above to see if carrots really bring home the bacon!
GreenSpace Café in Ferndale to close Feb. 1
FERNDALE, Mich. – After four years in business, GreenSpace Café in Ferndale has announced it will close permanently on Feb. 1. According to the popular vegan restaurant Facebook page, the decision was made due to issues with the landlord, the lease and finances, leaving “no other options.”"We are deeply grateful to our amazing staff over these years, current and past, and our amazing customers,” the Facebook post said. “Alas, the healthy plant food market is still tiny even if vibrant and growing.”Dr. Joel Kahn and his family will keep GreenSpace & Go on Woodward in Royal Oak open. Gift cards will be honored at the Ferndale location until the restaurant closes.
