Fire breaks out at The Capital Grille inside Somerset Collection in Troy
A plume of black smoke pouring out of the roof of Somerset Collection north could be seen for miles after a kitchen fire at the Capital Grille goes up through the vents and through the roof. Troy Fire Station number three got on top of the fire quickly and spared the building from significant damage.

Winners of ‘Tune In To Somerset Collection’ Contest
Somerset Collection is thrilled to support Detroit musicians by holding the Tune Into Somerset Collection contest. Launched the day before Thanksgiving and open through Dec 3, musicians submitted videos of themselves playing their instruments to ClickOnDetroit. The Somerset Collection has chosen its winners who will receive $2,500 each and perform during the holidays for mallgoers! In the holiday spirit, Somerset Collection also donated $2,500 in each of the winners’ names to Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, an organization that helps feed and house the homeless. Additionally, Somerset loved all the entries so much that they’re even giving $50 gift cards to all those who submitted eligible entries!

Somerset Collection Studio opens in Downtown Detroit
DETROIT – The Somerset Collection Studio is now open at the Metropolitan Building in Downtown Detroit. “We wanted to bring window shopping back,” said Somerset Collection corporate communications director Linda McIntosh. In early 2021, the space is going from only window shopping to in-store shopping. There will be a rotating selection of merchandise from Somerset Collection stores. Vending machine proceeds are headed to charity.

Black Friday holiday shopping in Metro Detroit toned down amid pandemic
Traditional Black Friday holiday shopping looks a little different this year amid the coronavirus pandemic. Several large retailers have been rolling out Black Friday deals online over the last month instead of waiting for the day after Thanksgiving. Still, malls like the Somerset Collection in Troy and Twelve Oaks in Novi are getting a decent amount of shoppers this Friday -- but their main priority is on safety rather than deals, as COVID-19 has been spreading rapidly across Michigan in recent weeks. 81-year-old carjacked by Warren woman at Somerset Collection
TROY, Mich. – An 81-year-old woman was carjacked at Somerset Collection today, Troy police say. According to Troy police, the incident happened at around 9 a.m. Monday while the victim was in her 2017 Buick Regal on the north side of Somerset Collection. Police say she was then approached by the 29-year-old carjacker from Warren who demanded the vehicle. The incident happened before the mall opened. Other crime related incidents have taken place at the Somerset Collection this year.

TROY, Mich. – Police arrested two men in connection with a “shots fired” incident that happened in the parking lot of the Somerset Collection in Troy. The incident happened Sunday night at 4:30 p.m. At the time of the incident officers were responding to a report of a loud, verbal argument between two groups of men that happened inside the mall. There were four vehicles in the parking lot that were struck by gunfire. Police said the two men were together in a gray Impala in the Neiman Marcus parking lot when Jones exchanged gunfire with four men in another car.

Police said shell casings were found on the scene that indicate at least two guns were involved in the shooting. There were four vehicles in the parking lot that were struck by gunfire. Police believe a dark gray, gray or silver SUV with a “boxy” body style may have been involved in the incident.

TROY, Mich. – Police were investigating reports of shots fired Sunday evening in the parking lot on the south side of Somerset Collection in Troy. The suspected shooter also fled the area, police said. Police don’t believe this was a random shooting. Anyone with information on this shooting needs to contact Troy police. Taylor man charged after police say he had gun at Somerset Collection
TROY, Mich. – A Taylor man was arrested and charged after a report of a possible assault involving a gun at the Somerset Collection in Troy. Michael Deonte James, 21, of Taylor, has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, felony firearm and possession of a firearm. Troy police responded at about 4:15 p.m. on Oct. 2 to a possible assault in the Nordstrom store. James was arraigned on Oct. 3 and was issued a $50,000 cash/surety bond. Police are still investigating the incident at Somerset Collection.

Officers punched in the face by Detroit man suspected of stealing from Macy’s at Somerset Collection
TROY, Mich – Two Troy police officers were physically abused by a Detroit man suspected of stealing from Macy’s at the Somerset Collection. On Sunday at around 2:20 p.m. officers were called to the Macy’s store over a retail fraud suspect not cooperating with employees. Store employees reportedly observed the 32-year-old Detroit man conceal merchandise and then attempt to leave the store without paying. When officers tried to take the man into custody, he punched one of the officers in the face with a closed fist. Another officer assisted and the suspect also punched him in the face.

Somerset Collection in Troy to reopen with changes to mitigate spread of COVID-19
TROY, Mich. – Somerset Collection is opening its doors on Thursday as the state begins to reopen amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The mall will have reduced hours and will only be open from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily and from noon until 6 p.m. on Sunday. Somerset Collection’s restaurants will also continue carryout service.

To start, the new hours will be from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. but don’t expect all the stores to be open on Thursday.

Troy, MI – You might be used to shopping on Amazon’s website, but there is a new way to find what you’re looking for. Amazon 4-Star store opened in the Somerset Collection North end in early March. Everything in the store has a 4-star or better rating from shoppers, and there are plenty of various items for sale. If you are an Amazon Prime member, certain items have discounted “Prime Prices”, which is similar to the website. This is one out of 12 brick and mortar Amazon stores in the country, plus you can sign up to be a Prime member there, if you aren’t all ready.

Man caught taking ‘upskirt’ picture of girl above him on escalator at Somerset in Troy, police say
TROY, Mich. – Troy police said they arrested a man who was caught taking “upskirt” pictures of a girl who was standing above him on an escalator at the Somerset Collection. Kristopher Murray, 36, of Clinton Township, was seen following a 16-year-old girl on an escalator, taking pictures of her, according to police. The girl told police she didn’t know she was being photographed, but she did notice someone standing close by, according to authorities. Murray is charged with capturing an image of an unclothed person, a five-year felony, and using a computer to commit a crime, a seven-year felony. Murray is scheduled to return to 52-4 District Court in Troy at 8:30 a.m. March 2.
