Watching someone transform a room or a home into something stunning, is fascinating. Two local men that have been doing just that, paid a visit to “Live in the D.” Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas started out transforming old houses in Detroit, by making them new again. They also have a furniture and design store, called “Nine Design + Homes,” that has blossomed into a TV show on HGTV called “Bargain Block.”

Officers shoot suspected carjacker on Detroit’s west side
That is the end of a two-block chase between Detroit police and two men in a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee seen in the video player above. About 20 minutes before 6:45 p.m., police say those two men were meeting someone else they’d contacted on Facebook Marketplace to buy some Air Jordan sneakers.
Study: Women in Michigan are paid 22% less than men
Women in Michigan are making 22% less money than their male counterparts, according to a study from Business.org. Women don’t have a higher average salary than men in any US state. Vermont has the smallest pay gap, with women earning only 9% less than men overall. Wyoming has the largest pay gap, with women earning 35% less than men overall. This is Business.org’s third such annual study on the gender pay gap.
Zimbabwe jails 3 for having New Year's party despite ban
Thousands of people attend a music concert to celebrate the new year in Mbare, Harare, Friday, Jan 1, 2021. Despite the ban, large parties were held in several Zimbabwean cities and towns. Zimbabwe had recorded low numbers of COVID-19 infections since March last year when it imposed a lockdown that was later eased as infections slowed. Others are still gathering for church services under trees and without practicing social distancing or wearing masks while they sing and pray. Zimbabwe has recorded more than 17,190 cases and 418 deaths, according to figures released Wednesday by the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Police search for 2 suspects accused of stealing from vehicles on Detroit’s east side
DETROIT – Police are investigating after two men stole from vehicles on Detroit’s east side. The theft happened on Oct. 19 at 11:55 p.m. in the 9100 block of Gratiot and again on Oct. 20 in the 100 block of Riopelle at 4:30 a.m.Police said two men exited a white 2010-2012 Chevy Impala, broke into vehicles and stolen items out of them. Police said they believe the suspects are the same in both incidents. Black men's votes courted as some search for political home
Trump’s positions on race and Biden’s decades-old controversial record on criminal justice make neither candidate particularly attractive to Black men. “You don’t lie, you acknowledge the truth, and admit that the choices before Black people in the year 2020 are abysmal,” said Agnew, an organizer with Black Men Build, a group created to empower Black men. Iraq War veteran Leo Dunson is a 35-year-old Black conservative activist and former Democrat who feels both parties have forgotten Black men. And 39% of those votes were by Black men — a similar gender breakdown to numbers reported in the 2016 general election. Harris’s tenure as a top prosecutor in California includes the disproportionate incarceration of Black men for drug offenses.
5 suspects in Whitmer kidnapping plot to be in federal court Tuesday in Grand Rapids
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Five men accused in the domestic terror plot to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer are scheduled for a hearing Tuesday in Grand Rapids. Those to be in court are Adam Fox, of Grand Rapids; Ty Garbin, of Hartland; Kaleb Franks, of Waterford; Daniel Harris, of Lake Orion; and Brandon Caserta, of Canton. The six men are accused of plotting to kidnap Whitmer outside of her northern Michigan vacation home. Whitmer has continued to go out and campaign for fellow Democrats since the plot was uncovered.
Driverless boat in Florida spins of control, smashing docks
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Three men conducting a photo shoot on a boat in a busy Florida river somehow went overboard, leaving the 24-foot vessel unmanned and out of control. The three men told deputies that they accidentally fell into the St. Lucie River along Florida's Atlantic coast on Saturday, leaving the boat unmanned. The boat then straightened out, hit a concrete dock, went airborne and hit a second dock before coming to a stop, the Martin County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post. One had a minor injury, the sheriff's office said. An investigation into the cause has been turned over to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
2 men found shot inside vehicle along Lodge Freeway in Detroit
DETROIT – Two men found shot this week in a vehicle along the Lodge Freeway in Detroit were actually shot in the parking lot of a hotel in Southfield. Police said officers pulled over the SUV on the Lodge Freeway near Livernois Avenue and found two men shot inside the vehicle. Investigators determined the men were shot in the parking lot of the Westin Hotel in Southfield. Police believe this may have been the result of a drug deal that turned violent. Both men are expected to survive their wounds.
Detroit police looking for 2 men wanted in connection to shooting, barricaded gunman situation
Police are searching for two men wanted in connection to a shooting and a barricaded gunman situation. According to authorities, it happened Sunday morning in a home on Coplin Street, near Chandler Park Drive. Police said a 40-year-old man was shot multiple times and was left in temporary serious condition after an argument. The two men were believed to be hiding inside a home, but police found the residence empty.
Lowell police chief resigns after remarks on men who armed themselves against potential protestors
LOWEL, Mich. Former Lowell police chief, Steven Bukala, resigned this week after making remarks on Facebook about four men who armed themselves against potential George Floyd protestors. According to the Lowell Police Department, the four men armed themselves to patrol Lowell in response to violent riots in Michigan. DETROIT Detroit police are looking to identify and locate three men wanted in connection with a breaking and entering incident that occurred Monday. The first suspect is described as wearing a blue hoodie with a red shirt underneath, black pants and black gloves. The second suspect was described as wearing a gray hoodie, black mask, orange gloves and black pants. ‘I got busted on the side of the head’: 7-Eleven clerk beaten with shotgun during robbery in Livonia
LIVONIA, Mich. – Robbers used a shotgun to beat a 7-Eleven clerk during a robbery early Wednesday in Livonia. The clerk was working at the store at 7 Mile and Inkster roads just after 1 a.m. when two men wearing masked rushed him. The clerk said the men asked him if he wanted to die and told him to open the store’s safe. The clerk does not have access to the safe, so the men continued to beat him. “I got busted on the side of the head," the clerk told the 911 dispatcher.

Authorities identify 3 men killed in Detroit White Castle restaurant
DETROIT – Three men who were gunned down inside a fast food restaurant in Detroit have been identified. The Wayne County medical examiner's office said Rashawn Harrington and Trevaughn Anthony died of multiple gunshot wounds. Police say two men wearing masks walked up to the White Castle on Detroit's west side about 12:22 a.m. Sunday and fired shots inside the restaurant before fleeing on foot. The victims -- ages 25, 24 and 20 -- were pronounced dead at the scene. The restaurant's windows had bullet holes and handguns were recovered.
