ANN ARBOR, MI -- An Ann Arbor folk festival is set to make a full return after several years of false starts and cancellations. The Ark’s Folk Fest is returning as a two-day, two-venue event from Friday, Jan. 27, to Saturday, Jan. 28. Roughly 70% of The Ark’s funds come from ticket sales, with the rest coming from membership fees and fundraisers like the festival, Chaffer Authier said. “There’s a lot of interest and excitement for the banjo as an instrument,” Chaffer Authier said. Available tickets for Saturday’s performances range from $47.50 to $120.

The concert has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 8, at the theater at 603 E. Liberty St. The benefit show was originally set for Feb. 11, but is being postponed to the spring due to the recent COVID-19 surge, organizers said. “We look forward to a great night of music and making a difference in the fight against hunger in our community,” Acoustic Routes Founder Jim Cain said in a statement. The Michigan Theater is requiring proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 for all guests attending.

Since then, it’s hosted virtual live-streamed shows, including a virtual Ann Arbor Folk Festival, and as an alternate venue for the partially-rained-out Ann Arbor Summer Festival. Richey, who performs a blend of country and folk music, was also featured in the virtual Ann Arbor Folk Festival, performing with the Accidentals to open the first night of the livestream event. Ann Arbor’s Laith Al-Saadi to play virtual concert with The Ark
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Musician Laith Al-Saadi will have a free concert on Saturday, Nov. 14, thanks to Ann Arbor’s The Ark and Michigan Theater. As part of the Ark Family Room Series, the 8 p.m. concert can be watched through Facebook Live. Al-Saadi gained national fame when he brought his unique blend of blues and rock to season 10 of NBC’s “The Voice” in 2016. The Nov. 14 concert is free but donations made through a virtual tip jar will support Al-Saadi, the Michigan Theater and The Ark. Over the course of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, The Ark has offered free and paid virtual events to keep music alive, support musical artists and to help audiences connect with their favorite musicians.

ANN ARBOR – As the coronavirus pandemic stretches toward the end of the year, live music feels like a thing of the past. Stony Lake Brewing in Saline and Acoustic Routes will be hosting a big screen watch party for The Ark’s live stream of multi-platinum group The Verve Pipe on Saturday at 8 p.m. The Ark is presenting the special live stream along with The Listening Room in Grand Rapids. According to a press release, the watch party is “designed around Michigan’s public health directives" and aims to support performance venues and Michigan artists during the pandemic. It launched the free Ark Family Room Series in April and offers between 15 to 20 virtual programs a month. It wants to raise $25,000 to keep funding programs, like its Ark Family Room Series, that go beyond Ann Arbor. Some supporters are local and loyal fans of the music venue, but others are in Australia, Ireland and the state of Washington. Currently, it is working to develop ticketed events and is exploring ways to make virtual programs more enriching and engaging for patrons. The 8 p.m. concert will include original songs and personal stories from the actor, director and singer-songwriters stage and movie career. After the concert, there will be a 15 to 30 minute Q&A session where Daniels will answer audience questions. In 2019, Daniels visited Ann Arbor for the showing of his film Guest Artist, which was filmed in his hometown of Chelsea, Michigan. Ann Arbor nonprofits receive COVID-19 relief grants from Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan
ANN ARBOR, Mich. The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan has given Relief and Resiliency grants to five Ann Arbor arts and culture nonprofit organizations. The Ark, Neutral Zone, Youth Arts Alliance, Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum and 826michigan have each received a $10,000 grant from the COVID-19 Arts and Creative Community Assistance Fund. In partnership with CultureSource, the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan awarded the grants to help organizations with financial pressures resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Funding was supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, DeRoy Testamentary Foundation, Ford Foundation, Kresge Foundation, Leinweber Foundation, Max M. and Marjorie S.
