GENESEE TOWNSHIP, MI -- The founder of Gillie’s Coney Island celebrated his retirement Wednesday, Oct. 20, by handing 17 framed share certificates to his dedicated employees. Now, Gillie is able to pass the restaurant on to 17 of his 40 employees. Gillie said he is able to sell the business to his employees due to the money received through the Paycheck Protection Program. The business, which Gillie said is run through a C corporation, lent the employees money from PPP forgivable loans, Gillie said. Noble’s mother was one of the first employees at Gillies when it opened in 1985.

Police officers were called to the restaurant for a reported shooting at 2:54 a.m. on Sunday, July 18, the release said. Upon arrival, they located Richmond who had suffered a gunshot wound and was unresponsive; he was pronounced dead at the scene. James Dumas, 39, of Southfield, is accused of discharging a handgun during a verbal altercation, resulting in the death of Richmond, the release said.

PONTIAC, MI – Police are investigating after a man was found dead with a gunshot wound at a Coney Island restaurant in Pontiac. The deceased, 26-year-old male from Waterford Township was found in the parking lot at D’Anton’s Coney Island, 411 W. Huron Street at 9:47 a.m. on Wednesday. He had previously been reported missing by a friend and his sister, who found the deceased while searching the area, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies and Star EMS responded to the scene but could do nothing to help the deceased. There is no suspect information at this time, police said.

Restaurant owner says he’ll keep serving one table at a time indoors despite COVID restrictions
But for everything he’s invested in the business, he’s risking citations from health officials by allowing a single table of customers to eat in at his otherwise empty dining room because of COVID-19 restrictions. Restaurant advocates have argued it’s unfair that dining rooms can’t open while so many other businesses have operated uninterrupted. HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. – Police are still looking for a gunman wanted in the deadly shooting of a 39-year-old man outside of a Highland Park Coney Island restaurant that occurred in August. “Me and my family have a $10,000 reward,” said the victim’s mother, Deanna Hill. Highland Park police weren’t able to comment on the investigation. It’s unclear why the gunman was with Hill when they got to Highland Park that night in August. 2 men charged with second-degree murder in Detroit restaurant shooting that killed 23-year-old woman
DETROIT Two men are facing second-degree murder charges after an argument-turned-shootout killed a 23-year-old woman at a Detroit coney island restaurant on Saturday. At about 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Craparotta and Harris reportedly entered Detroit One Coney Island on Woodward Avenye with the 23-year-old victim. The two men reportedly began arguing with a third man who was already sitting inside the establishment, police said. Gunfire was exchanged between one of the first two men and the third man as the altercation escalated, according to officials. Craparotta was struck and taken to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition and taken into police custody.

A Farmington Hills man is charged with assault with intent to murder after a 62-year-old woman was set on fire Saturday outside a Coney Island restaurant in Redford Township. The Prosecutors Office said William Gary Helmer, 63, was acquainted with the victim, who is also a Farmington Hills resident. He is charged with one count of assault with intent to murder and aggravated assault. This Rusty guy put my mom in critical and tried to murder her with fire, Spinellas son, Bryan Morrissey said. DETROIT - Detroit police have put out a new alert about a deadly hit-and-run that killed 58-year-old Horland Darnell Patterson on 8 mile. Local 4 obtained footage of the driver wanted in connection with the crash that happened Sept. 11. It has been more than three weeks since Patterson was killed outside a Coney Island. A dark-colored Ford F-150 pickup drove right into Patterson outside a Coney Island in the 8000 block of 8 Mile. Patterson and the driver apparently exchanged words inside the restaurant before the crash, police say.
Detroit police seek driver after man intentionally run over, killed at 8 Mile Grill
DETROIT - Detroit police are seeking a driver who ran over a man at a Coney Island, killing him early Wednesday. Police said Horland "Darnell" Patterson, 58, exchanged words about a woman inside 8 Mile Grill, on 8 Mile Road near Livernois Avenue, around 4 a.m.An argument continued into the parking lot, where the other man got into a pickup truck, shut off the lights and ran over Patterson, killing him. "He got in his truck, and here comes Darnell. He hit him and ran him over," said Elle Mae Patterson, the victim's mother. Police are trying to find the driver who hit Patterson.
St. Clair Shores man charged in downtown Detroit Coney Island stabbing

DETROIT - Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged David Michael Golze in connection with a non-fatal stabbing that happened at a Detroit Coney Island in the 100 block of West Lafayette. The man who was stabbed, a 31-year-old security guard from Royal Oak, was attacked in front of the downtown Detroit Coney Island restaurant. On Saturday at around 1 a.m., he was working as a security guard at Coney Island. When the man discovered he was bleeding, he flagged down Detroit police officers who transported him to a local hospital for treatment.
Wayne police arrest suspected serial burglar
WAYNE, Mich. - Police in Wayne arrested a man Wednesday who they believe is responsible for several burglaries in the area. According to authorities, at about 11:30 p.m., Wayne police officers were dispatched to Steve's Coney Island restaurant on Wayne Road for reports of a break-in. When police arrived, a witness helped officers locate the suspect. Police said they were able to recover stolen property and, with help from a Michigan State Police K-9 Unit, the tool used to break into the Coney Island restaurant. David Edward Miller, 57, was arrested and is believed to be connected to at least six other burglaries in Wayne, Dearborn and Romulus.

Detroit police seek hit-and-run driver year after man killed while picking up food
DETROIT - Detroit police are still searching for a hit-and-run driver more than a year after a man was struck and killed while walking to pick up food from a nearby Coney Island restaurant, officials said. Dallas Thomas, 52, was visiting with friends Aug. 8, 2018, when he left to walk and pick up food from a nearby Coney Island restaurant, police said. Thomas was at the intersection of Dexter Avenue and West Davidson Street on Detroit's west side when he was struck by a vehicle around 11:55 p.m., according to authorities. Police said Thomas was struck possibly by a dark blue, midsize Chevrolet. The Chevrolet was heading east on Davidson Street when it struck Thomas, according to officials.
