ADRIAN, MI - Michigan regulators have cited an Adrian-based manufacturer of powdered eggs with several environmental violations after nearby residents complained of “offensive odors” coming from the facility. The Crimson Holdings, LLC plant at 1336 East Maumee Street in Adrian recently switched from making powdered milk to powdered eggs, according to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy. Then, in late May and early April, environmental officials sent the company a pair of violation notices. EGLE officials said company officials had been looking for a solution to address odors, even before the violation notice was sent. In a two-page letter, Plant Manager Dan Hofbauer detailed an “action plan” to eliminate smell issues.

LENAWEE COUNTY, MI – An Adrian man was killed Monday morning in a head-on crash in northeast Lenawee County. Rescue crews were called at 8:23 a.m. May 30, to the area of Ridge Highway and Pennington Road in Macon Township for a reported head-on crash that had just occurred, according to the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office. Officers discovered a vehicle going north, driven by a Romulus man, struck an oncoming southbound vehicle driven by a 42-year-old Adrian man, police said. The Adrian man suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Romulus man was taken to an area hospital to be treated for injuries deemed not to be life-threatening, police said.

During this time, traffic in both directions of the highway will share the same lane and alternate using temporary traffic signals, MDOT officials said. Marissa Cotton, who was kicked off the team as a senior in 2017, filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Detroit on Feb. 17. The complaint against the Adrian-based private college and some athletic department officials accuses them of violating Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits racial discrimination.

Adrian owns the highest winning percentage of any NCAA Division 3 men’s hockey state champion.

LENAWEE COUNTY, MI – An Adrian woman was killed Thursday night in a head-on crash with a farming tractor in Rome Township, police say. Police and rescue crews were called at 7:34 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, to Gilbert Highway east of Teachout Road for a report of a pickup crashing into a tractor head on, according to the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office. The preliminary investigation indicates the woman, 31, was driving south on Gilbert Highway when she collided with a New Holland farm tractor, driven by a 19-year-old Tipton man, going north, police said. The woman suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries, police said.

The driver was not injured in the crash and no other vehicles appear to be involved in the crash, police said. ADRIAN, Ore. — The Adrian School District will pay former superintendent Kevin Purnell more than $100,000 as part of the settlement he signed when he was terminated at the end of August. The agreement emerged as comments about the firing attributed to Purnell and the chair of the Adrian School Board, Eddie Kincade, were reported in an in-house article prepared by the Oregon School Boards Association. The Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Administration confirmed that it is investigating the school district over complaints that the mask mandate isn’t being enforced. Purnell’s firing came at a special meeting of the school board on Monday, Aug. 30. The district will pay $14,500 for health insurance as well as “employment taxes and retirement contributions required by the PERS system.”

The women lived at the campus of the Adrian Dominican Sisters in Adrian, 75 miles (120 kilometers) southwest of Detroit. Eight nuns in suburban Milwaukee died of virus complications in one week in December, including four in one day. Man charged with open murder after 2 men killed in Adrian, police say
ADRIAN, Mich. – A man has been charged with open murder after two men were killed in Adrian, according to police. Christopher Lee-Ryan Carden, 34, is accused in the killings of Robert Braman, 67, and Samuel Compton, 82, both of Adrian, authorities said. Adrian police officers were called at 10:30 p.m. Friday (Jan. 15) to a home in the 900 block of Frank Street, officials said. Carden crashed the stolen vehicle and was taken into custody without incident after a fleeing the crash scene on foot, according to officials. He is charged with two counts of open murder, one count of unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle and one count of third-degree fleeing a police officer.
Person of interest arrested in Adrian double homicide
DETROIT – The bodies of two men were discovered at 10:30 p.m. Friday at a home in the 900 block of Frank Street in Adrian after police went there to complete a welfare check. A person of interest in the double homicide has been arrested. According to police, the person of interest fled the scene in a vehicle that later crashed. Police say the person of interest then ran away from the crash scene on foot and was taken into custody shortly afterward. The Adrian Dominican Sisters -- who founded and sponsor Siena Heights University in Michigan -- specifically singled out senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow and Rep. Tim Walberg on Friday to take action to remove President Trump from office. Several Cabinet members and White House employees have resigned from their posts following the deadly siege of the U.S. Capitol. President Trump has since publicly condemned the violence in Washington, and even conceded to President-elect Biden for the first time on Thursday evening. Pelosi told Democrats that the top military official assured her steps are in place to prevent a Trump nuclear launch.

ADRIAN, Mich. – Tragedy struck an Adrian family when a collision killed a mother and father. “It’s so hard,” said Jeffrey Hale. His parents, 60-year-old David Hale and 57-year-old Deborah Hale, and the family dog all were killed in a collision Thursday night. “My parents were actually in Taylor, doing a little bit of Christmas shopping. On their way home, they live out in Adrian, and they were on US-223, only 5 minutes away from their home,” Jeffrey Hale said.

2 Michigan adults, 1 teen accused in prison drug smuggling plot
COLDWATER, Mich. – Two adults and a teenager have been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into a southern Michigan prison, according to Michigan State Police. The alleged plot at Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater was discovered on Saturday, authorities said. Prison officials asked state police to investigate. A 33-year-old Adrian woman, her 15-year-old daughter and a 20-year-old man, also from Adrian, were arrested and hit with multiple felony charges. The teen was turned over a family member and Child Protective Services was called.
Adrian police investigate fatal stabbing of 85-year-old Lenawee County resident at Meijer
ADRIAN, Mich. – Adrian police are investigating a stabbing at a Meijer store that left an 85-year-old Lenawee County resident dead. Police were dispatched to the store at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday of a stabbing in progress. They were advised that a CPL holder intervened and was holding the suspect at gunpoint. Man with black bicycle accused of robbing Adrian gas station
ADRIAN, Mich. – Police are searching for a man with a black bicycle who robbed a gas station in Adrian, officials said. The strong-arm robbery happened around 11:50 p.m. Saturday at the Shell Spee-D-Mart at 507 West Beecher Street, according to authorities. Police said the man was last seen riding a black bicycle north on North Main Street. He is in his 20s, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and has a thin build, witnesses said.
