One year on, Real Irish in Ann Arbor stands its ground despite pandemic
ANN ARBOR – For many small businesses, the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic was a recipe for disaster. After three months, Real Irish opened its doors again in June to customers. Woolen sweaters, caps and jackets are just some of the specialty items sold at Real Irish. The last two months of the year were a major success for Real Irish, with customers seeking out authentic Irish gifts for family members and friends for the holidays.
The new jewelry trend that may surprise you
Last week on SNL, host Regé-Jean Page rocked pearl brooches during his opening monologue, and Local style editor Jon Jordan says that this is just the start of jewelry coming back into men’s fashion. It seems that young guys are embracing the trend a bit more readily, but it really can work for anyone. He said that it works for both formal and informal occasions, and it can be as easy as adding a simple metal clip if you’re not ready for pearls. NOW studios gives visitors opportunity to ask questions, explore, experience change and play
Owned by Petals and Bubbles Sandcastle, the studios are a springboard for change and to dismantle unproductive mindsets. That space allowed community members to pay their own price and use the space for anything, from music festivals to moth storytelling. Community members can choose from three price points or pick their own price. NOW studios is a safe space to explore, express and process, and spaces like the downtown Ann Arbor studio seem to work. Community members can tune into NOW programming via live streaming and social media platforms.

The Gutman Gallery is accepting submissions from all artists for its upcoming exhibition that kicks off on March 19, 2021. The exhibition will run at the gallery at 118 N. 4th Ave. March 19-May 1. The Guild of Artists & Artisans presents the Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair -- the Ann Arbor Art Fair’s largest fair -- each year. How graffiti is being transformed into beautiful jewelry
Mitch Albom first met with Rebel Nell in 2014, a company that makes the majority of their products out of graffiti. Albom says he was drawn to the company because of their mission to provide employment opportunities to underserved women in Detroit. Since the pandemic began, Rebel Nell started a nonprofit wing of their organization to protect their employees. Each piece from Rebel Nell is one of a kind, and is made out of recycled materials. Clean your household items with toothpaste?
We normally use toothpaste twice a day to brush our way to clean teeth and fresh breath. Kila Peeples found a way to use toothpaste in ways we never would have thought to use it. If your bathroom counter is covered in make-up residue, take a small amount of paste and rub it on the counter until the make-up is gone. Take an old toothbrush, a dollop of toothpaste, and scrub. Community members can submit nominations for frontline workers through the Abracadabra Facebook and Instagram accounts. Winners can choose between finished pieces by artists at the Ann Arbor business or choose a gift card for future purchases. Abracadabra co-owner Katherine Lesse said that the giveaway was the jewelry business’ way of giving back to those helping others. There has been an enthusiastic response to the weekly giveaway and that stories have poured in about frontline workers according to Lesse.
