Fence and car of bystanders damaged during high speed chase involving Detroit, state police
DETROIT โ A high speed chase involving the Detroit Police Department and Michigan State Police came to an end with one officerโs cruiser T-boned. So I think they get stunned a little bit at first that weโre able to keep up with them,โ Lt. Shaw added. โThe suspect had ran a stop sign there and T-boned into a patrol car. That patrol car and the charger kind of went off into the area, hit a fence and a couple of parked cars that were parked over there,โ said Lt. Shaw. Bognear is concerned about his fence and how close the chase came to hitting his home.
Michigan State Police close freeway looking for evidence in I-96 shootout that killed 3
DETROIT โ Michigan State Police were back out on I-96 Tuesday afternoon to investigate a shooting being regarded as strange. MSP closed portions of I-96 near the Davison Freeway as they looked for clues in the highway shooting that killed three people. Shaw said they got 911 calls about the freeway shooting Monday around 10 p.m. in the area of I-96 and Schaefer in Detroit. โWhen troopers arrived on scene, they located two vehicles on the express lanes of I-96 by Schaefer. AdThe other man who was hit and killed by the car was in his late 20s from Highland Park.

DETROIT โ Michigan State Police said speed and alcohol were factors in a two-vehicle crash that left three people dead on eastbound Interstate 94 in Detroit. Thatโs not tragic, thatโs stupidity,โ said MSP Lt. Mike Shaw. State police said the driver of a Chevy Camaro was speeding when he rear-ended a Mercury SUV heading in the same direction. โThis is one crime we can make go away today if people did not get behind the wheel impaired,โ Shaw said. โThereโs two families, three families out there that possibly will never have the same experience in life again because their loved one is gone,โ Shaw said.

Police investigating potential road rage shooting on Southfield Freeway
DETROIT โ There have been at least 18 shootings on Metro Detroit freeways since June. The driver told police his car was shot multiple times by someone in a Maserati somewhere between McNichols and Eight Mile roads. Thatโs when the victim claims the Maserati driver fired shots and fled northbound. Lt. Mike Shaw with Michigan State Patrol urges drivers to avoid engaging in arguments while on the road. MSP lieutenant believes faster driving during pandemic is factor in Metro Detroit freeway shootings
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. โ Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw spoke about a rash of Metro Detroit freeway shootings, saying he believes drivers are speeding more during the pandemic, leading to disputes on the roadway. Over the past six months, Metro Detroit drivers have had to cope with a new hazard: Gunfire. Shaw said the incident began with a run-in between two men at Joy Road and the Southfield Freeway and moved to I-96. Shaw believes more than anything, drivers need to take a deep breath and step back if they find themselves in a possible road rage situation. Michigan State Police officials said since June 15, there have been 18 shooting incidents on Metro Detroit highways, including 14 in Detroit.

DETROIT The Citizen Advisory Council has been created to give people a closer look at whats going on with the Michigan State Police department. One of the things that weve been working on our strategic plan was trying to be a little bit more transparent, said Lt. Mike Shaw. Lt. Shaw, with Michigan State Police, said the solution has been found with a brand new site on the world wide web. What were doing as far as our strength report and things like that -- all of our non-confidential policies and procedures are also on this website, added Lt. Shaw. The goal is to improve overall police relations, giving the people the power to hold MSP officers and the department accountable.
Michigan State Police see uptick of gun seizures during traffic stops
DETROIT Officials are reporting an uptick in the number of illegal guns Michigan State Police has recovered from freeways in the Detroit area. Officers said their primary goal is to get more of the weapons off the streets to prevent more freeway shootings from happening. Its designed to help commit a crime,said Lt. Mike Shaw with Michigan State PatrolPolice said 103 illegal weapons were recovered from traffic stops between April and July 30 of this year on highways surrounding Metro Detroit. These are from everyday folks that are driving around with illegal guns, said Lt. Shaw. The seizures arent just happening here in the State of Michigan, but all over the US.

Mike Shaw said. The freeway shootings are happening, in most cases, because of everyday agitations on the road. A simple lane violation, disrespecting someone, somebody looked at them wrong -- going too fast or too slow, Shaw said. So far, there have been 12 shootings in Wayne County and one in Oakland County.
2 men struck by cars, killed after pulling over on I-696 due to minor crash, MSP says
OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. โ Two drivers were killed on eastbound I-696 in Oakland County when two cars struck them while they were standing outside their vehicles following a minor crash, police said. The two drivers had been involved in a minor crash around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday in the eastbound lanes of I-696 between the Woodward Avenue and Coolidge Highway exits, according to authorities. โA minor crash -- two male individuals get out of their vehicles waling around and another vehicle comes through and hits them,โ Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said. โRight now we believe we have four vehicles involved, two male fatalities,โ Shaw said. โIf youโre involved with a traffic crash, itโs just a traffic crash,โ Shaw said.

Canton man in viral video on Lodge Freeway arrested
DETROIT - Detroit police Chief James Craig announced a man from Canton who appeared in a viral video has been arrested. The video, which went viral quickly on social media showed illegal stunt driving on the Lodge Freeway. Its a message he echoed loud and clear Monday at a news conference just days after the video took off on social media. It shows several people spinning out of control on the Lodge Freeway, doing donuts and blocking lanes of traffic at the same time.
